@loginfailed sorry you're still having issues. Even though fuel pressure checks out, you might have an issue with flow rate.

I doubt it's the tune at this point, as you've tweaked a lot of other variables on your truck. But I would uninstall and reinstall the tune just in case.

One possibility that comes to mind is that the fuel rail might be kinked - it's a tight fit down there and I wouldn't be surprised if that could happen during the install.

Good luck getting it sorted

i got the install done Saturday night and felt like a boss when she fired right up and things were looking good. after the engine heated up and the thermostat opened...water everywhere! i could see the pinched gasket on the extension connecting the t-stat housing to the motor. dammit.

Sunday morning i spent two bonus hours taking the t-stat housing off and replacing the gasket. no leaks now but it's running hot so i think i have an air bubble to sort out.

before turning wrenches i was messing with the Bully Dog tuner and updated the device using the BD software program. bad move. i could not get the BD to interface with my ECU. i would keep getting a prompt to select the vehicle each time the device powered up. i would select the vehicle then i would get the same prompt to select the vehicle after plugging in the device again. round and round.

i called BD support and they gave me the default files for the BD Platinum GT. The device now goes to the menu after i select the vehicle instead of constantly going round and round. i'm at work now but it looks like i should be able to plug the device into my Tacoma and flash the ECU. we'll see...

if anyone needs the default BD files let me know and i'll email them to you.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I did check the fuel rails like you said. But the fuel rails are hard plastic I don't see how they can be kinked. At the front of the rails there is a hard plastic line with a rubber sheath that connects the 2 rails together and it is completely unobstructed. The back of the rail has 2 hard plastic lines also with rubber sheaths around them. I followed both of those lines around to where they plug into the metal lines that go to the tank and those are all unobstructed.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the BD tune several times since the initial install. I just finished doing it again and discovered that there was an update. After the update there was no longer a Tacoma SC option. I call Bully Dog and they said that the new version doesn't say SC. Not sure I believe that or not. He basically said that the model that comes with the supercharger is "automatically supercharger".

I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow to try the TRD flash like @TacoCat

That is correct - I had the same issue (did not say SC), but the main tune files were labeled "Magnuson" on the update agent.

Any change after the install of the new tune?

It pretty much runs the same no matter what tune. I honestly don't think my BD is doing anything despite the fact that it says its doing it. I just uninstalled the tune in preparation for my appointment in the morning. Went on a quick run and it runs exactly the same. Fine at part throttle, lean with boost.

Anything happen accidentally on the SC install? For example, I was leaking fuel. When I found the issue (kinked groumet or improperly sealed injector) I remember my friend said an injector fell out of the bag and hit the ground before I installed it on the fuel rail.

I also moved the position of the crankshaft when I torqued it down. Luckily I marked the position before I started. That was all okay tho.

I'm just trying to think outside the box to help you isolate the issue.

Everything went really smooth with the install. I appreciate any suggestions. I am a mechanic by trade ASE certified master A1-A8 I wrench every day. I've checked all sorts of stuff. Either I've made some really bonehead error and don't know it or it's the tune. The truck runs perfect as long as I'm easy on the throttle.

That valve on the back of the charger that is set from the factory, what does it do? it says to not pick it up by that. Could bumping that cause this type of problem?

Could be the bypass actuator. If so, whacking that thing could have damaged it which would lead to similar problems that have been described in this thread.

@loginfailed good luck with stealership ECU flash. i hope that does the trick.

after getting the default GT Platinum file reinstalled from Bully Dog support the tune went in without any trouble. i chose 'stock' as i have the 3" pulley right now. i'm loving the new feel to my ride. i haven't pushed her too hard yet because i am still having a coolant issue. the temp gauge goes to about 50% and hangs there with the heater on high. i need to consult a priest to get the air out of there.

    ...too much shit to list.
Old redneck trick...drill a small hole in the top of the thermostat. Any air in the block will bleed through it.

wish i knew that when i took the t-stat housing out to fix a water leak. i'm hoping i can avoid taking the housing out again. i'm surprised at how difficult it is to bleed air out of the system.

Use one of these, hook it up to your radiator cap and let the truck burp the air out.

Thanks, I just dropped the truck off a little while ago. I was concerned that the TRD flash would interfere with future use of a UCON but I just talked to Gadget on the phone and he said stock flash or TRD flash is not a problem.
