I tried the starter trick. My breaker bar had the 1/2" drive shear clean off... so then had to pony up for that badass cordless Dewalt impact and it broke the bolt loose no sweat.

Edit... so now I have two impacts, anybody want a giant cheap horrible freight electric impact?

yeah... I freaked out pretty hard after that... was worried I was screwed more than just with the SC install.

The largest cordless dewalt impact has 1200 ft lbs breakaway torque and barely fit with a short socket (maybe 1/3" to spare) between the crank pulley bolt and radiator.

I did the starter bump method. Took me several minutes to get the balls to actually do it, was very nervous to do it. But it was REALLY simple/easy once I attempted it.

Keep it in your truck for on or off road emergencies.

The dewalt saved my ass, so yeah it's never leaving my side and has a home behind the back seats until I get my plano cases mounted on the roof.

That damn horrible freight impact though... :annoyed:

I swapped out the main belt during this project. It's rather tempting to keep the old one with a breaker in the truck in case I ever needed to do a roadside swap.

Just bear in mind that the roadside swap will also entail removal of the S/C belt+tensioner. Not major surgery but not exactly a 5-minute job.

Modern belts will last a long long time - usually its a failed idler or some other part that takes the belt out in the process.

For a tune that I was confident in it would be worth it to me.

This about average for a dyno tune on Subarus.

The alternative is to slap a bunch of stickers on your truck for all that +5hp.

the only one reason what i see if you have all other mods, like cold air intake, full exhaust, cam gears, dif gaers and etc....
so they will make one tune that will let work propertly a lot of different aftermarket parts.
and it will be better to do after you will sure that you do not want any other modifications.

other way i do not see the reason to pay that much money

How did you uninstall the BD tune? I took my truck into the dealership today and they said I had all of the updates for the SC. I told them to update it anyway to overwrite the tune and they said they couldn't do anything because the prompts to update do not show up because the system thinks everything is installed.

Uninstall GT in the BD menu. BD uses the same calibration ID as Toyota does for the TRD tune, so even though you go through the uninstall process, it will still look like the TRD tune is there. The calibration wizard they use at the dealer sees the TRD calibration ID and doesn't give them the option to do an update. This is the problem for anyone trying to get TRD flash AFTER trying the BD. The old way to flash an ECU at the dealer involved downloading the calibration to the PC, transferring it to the old tester unit (whatever they called it) and then using the tester to flash the ECU. There is probably still a way to manually do it, but I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Waiting on the Mongoose group buy..

Negative. I had uninstalled the BD tune thinking it went back to the stock N/A tune but the dealer said the S/C tune was already installed. :frusty:

So, she kinda whines a bit.

The full kit: Magnuson, 2.85" pulley, URD Ucon, URD fuel pump/filter upgrade.

To be done: Trac bar, Level 10 valve body upgrade, Detroit Torsen rear diff.
