I feel some of your comments here have an interesting perspective. I understand logistics can be uncontrollable at times with distributors, but if you are the OP and have decided to STOP participating in a group buy without atleast be willing to share your perspective of what you think is going on then you are high on shit if you think the dude has other possible limitations at this point. This pussy checked out plain and simple. Another thing you keep bringing up the issue that people shouldn't of done the friends and family thing. I agree with that, but remember some folks don't have almost 17,000 posts like you and likely might not of been here from the beginning. This is also similar with new guys and the search function, would you really expect some of the members to all of a sudden know all the history and background of every member they plan to conduct business with? Unless I come across a red flag I assume members here have an honest intent unless they signed up the previous month. There were probably some assumptions that since mahalo has survived this long on TW and has a nice rig that maybe it was safe to say he has some good standing without knowing the dudes ten year history with life on tw? Based off other excellent members such as Ramon and the steadfastness of the mods in this forum I can very easily see where some may be complacent enough to give faith on some level to mahalo since technically he did deliver the goods instead of crossing the line of fraud like this time. Regardless I'm sure the failure and possible criminal intent of this group buy will probably be a wake up call for quite a few folks including some of the mods if I had to make a guess about future group buys. I don't care what the reasons of the OP turn out to be at this point, it's clear he doesn't have the sack to clear his own name and prove he is a legitimate member anymore. As far as I'm concerned he is a criminal and I hope he is persued as such.

The thing is, there is nothing that happened in this group buy that couldn't have easily happened in any other of them. So the only real way for mods and Bob to 100% prevent shit like this to happen is to not allow any group buys unless they were a vendor on here.

Last year (?) there were a problem with vendors and the rules changed so that in order to be a vendor on here you had to show Bob your tax info and all that shit to PROVE you were an actual business and not just some dude making shit in his parents basement.

I've seen enough deals go to shit in my 8 years here that I don't even bother with group buys. There are other forums I'm a member on that also doesn't allow for group buys for that same reason.

Or to what I have been lobbying for is make some set standards that require failsafes between the vendor and tw that the OP would be forced to conduct in accordance with. I'm sure I could draft up a primative set of guidelines. At this point though it is very evident that tw doesn't have rules about a situation like this. Could be a great motive as to why mahalo went this route with seeing how vulnerable members can be if you execute a group buy in a certain way with the funds? I know unless Ramon does a group buy this thread will make me suspect of others just because they don't have the successful history with group buys like Ramon has. Lastly, if tw isn't willing to consider and commit to some sort of basic approach with future group buys then maybe they really shouldn't allow them anymore? I know they are great deals, but as we are finding out illegal activities can be costly too.

Again you have a lot of history here other members may not have the luxury of. Thanks for the info though, atleast now I can change my approach about group buys.

After reading through a chunk of all that's happened with this group buy I feel lucky for this, but I've done one group buy and had zero difficulties with it. Total chaos Uca group buy and it was smooth as silk. They're not all bad.

True, and the only involvement Ramon really has is the person setting up the deal from what I can tell. He talks to the vendor, says what kind of deal for 10, 15, 20 people etc, then gets people to commit to it. Then he talks to them again (I think?) saying there are x amount of people ready, send me the appropriate discount code so people can order from your site.

And that's the real key difference. With Ramons you're sending money directly to the company who carries the product and they ship direct to you. With this one you sent it to a dude who had to order it all from overseas, have to wait for it to come to his house, and then he ships it out...eventually.
