I'm trying to use just the GPS function on the Garmin explorer to override the terrible gps module in our cellphones. And then use gaia maps/avenza as a mapping service.

I linked the Bluetooth to my iPad Pro and it transmits GPS data automatically for all navigation apps I have tried.

Yeah I know they work with all apple devices since you don't have to use the Android Mock location function, I'm trying to avoid buying another handheld device for this. But might have to get a used phone or tablet since my galaxy S6 is such a piece of rubbish.

Have you tried turning off location/gps on your cellphone and then pairing the Garmin to see if it pulls the GPS data?

Didn't work. If I load up google maps, it requests i turn my phone gps on even though it's paired over bluetooth. According to the internet, you should be able to use the "mock gps location" in the developer options on my android device. I tried that and turned my phone gps off and it still asked for my phone GPS.

I have yet paired it with my phone for this use.

    1. Turn off GPS/locator on phone.
    2. Pair via bluetooth to Garmin unit
    3. Start Mapping app

Is this what you did for the phone to pull the GPS signal from the unit?

    Not much, yet.
Is anyone else having an issue registering an inReach account and setting up the device?

Probably the easiest thing ever for me man. Is it just not wanting to connect to a signal or what? I was sure to follow the directions to a T when I registered it. Didn’t have any problem. Also note that you are supposed to be outside with a clear signal to let it actually work through and connect.

It's the actual inreach.garmin.com website. I'm trying to create an account so I can activate and use the SOS/text features when I go camping later this month. It keeps telling me my phone number is invalid, and the Earthmate app refuses to accept my login info.

*edit* finally got a hold of customer support. Apparently the entire activation system went down :frusty:

I might be up for round three. I need to get something like this for extended backpacking, but haven't started research on which model I want...

I think the vendor may want to do the next one on the Regular and the Mini, this would give people options.
