The install thread doesn't show the recovery frame braces. Is it obvious where they go and how they're installed once the installation is started?

It's fairly obvious. They go on the two outside bolts that connect the bumper to the frame. There is an existing hole in your frame (mine had a little plastic cover I had to remove) for the through bolt. I can post a picture later if that'd help.

I can't seem to get the stock bumper off. I've removed all visible tabs, screws, and popped the piece that sits right below the headlights. It wiggles, but does not want to come free at the top of the sides.

I can't believe with the millions of these things sold there isn't a decent how to video on youtube.

Look up the Tacoma manual if you don't have one. I'm trying to think back to when I took mine off cause there might be something you're missing but I can't remember. Seriously though, you'd think there'd be a video

Shit that thing requires some pulling to get off. I kept worrying I was going to tear something up, but figured I was replacing it anyhow and gave it a big tug and POP it came free.

    What a PITA.

Yeah it does take some tugging. Guess there's something to say for pop tabs after all... Haha
Glad you got it off. Can't wait to see the install piece

I found a food one on you tube. I'll look for it tonight

Edit...try this one. I think this is the one I used. I can take the grill and bumper off in 10 minutes top. Probably faster...

That's okay. I used that one as a guide, but some things are missing on that video that need to be done on the 2012+. The grillcraft install doc was actually much better.

Meanwhile, have run into some issues with fitment and posted in the install thread. :(

The space between light mountis 1/8-1/4" too narrow and I can't get my LED bar between the mounts. I even tried pounding the mounts out wider, but they are welded at top and front and won't shift enough.

I had to give up on the light bar. Not only are the mounts too narrow to fit the bar, but there is not enough space between the winch solenoid and the front of the bumper to wedge a light bar in there.

Mounted everything else up and went camping Wed/Th with the family.

What light bar was that? The one I posted was the smallest bar that Simon found for it to work with the winch

That sucks about the light bar gravedgr. But the bumper looks sweet on the truck and hope you had a great time camping.

It's one from AVEC here on TW. We discussed the specs in this thread (quoted above). I was just about to put a grinding wheel on my angle grinder and try taking about 1-2/16" off each end to see if it would fit when my wife mounted the solenoid on top of the winch and we realized there was no space left for the bar.

I looked around for another mount location for the solenoid, but the cables that go to the winch engine are pretty short.

    Gravedgr,

I know how much you would like to get that light bar inside your grill. I located my winch controller just behind my grille. See pic. Hope this will help you out. I had to switch my brackets on the controller 180 degrees around and drill a couple of holes to install it. I have the Viper Max 12000. With the controller relocated, all the wiring should still reach all your connection points. Hope this gives you some ideas..... Bumper looks awesome man!!!!!!!!

I bought AVEC LED Foglights. They are great. Had them on now for over a couple months now. No problems so far....

I had this same issue, maybe I had a bigger hammer, I was able to pound them out and get the bar in there, but I wasn't able to get it all the way forward, but I got it close enough. The light itself also interferes with the cross member under the grill, and this is why I had to shim my bumper out.

I bought the one you linked to on Amazon. Maybe they've made some slight changes to the dimensions? In my opinion its better for those mounts to be a 1/2" too wide, versus an 1/8" too narrow. I could have used a bushing and longer screws if they were too wide, but too narrow was a bit harder to deal with. I also had to ream out the slot for the mounting screws, it was just slightly small as well.
