QC issues huh? That would explain why it worked great for me and for others they required to space out their pulley's more and stuff.

    Good catch man.

That kinda defeats the purpose of a quick change pulley if they can't keep their shit consistent.

Well, that’s alarming. So, you’re seeing differences in spacing between different size pulleys on the same hub?! That’s no bueno.

As for yesterday’s activities in my driveway. I installed a 2.8 pulley and Grant installed a 2.5. We pressed both hubs to the same depth on both blowers. The belt lined up great on both trucks.

We did however notice that his 2.5 pulley did not want to slide onto my hub. But my 2.5 pulley (I bought two sizes) slipped on very nice. His hub/pulley fit together very snugly. In fact, after pressing on the hub, we needed to chill the snout/hub to get his pulley to slip on.

So, depth inconsistencies between the individual pulley sizes is an issue eh? Great :annoyed:

Apparently made in America doesn't mean shit anymore if people can't QC their tolerances correctly.

Yup there inconsistencies between both pulleys. The 2.8 slides super easy onto the hub and the 2.6 needs to be perfectly aligned to slide on. I just measured the pulley thickness and there is a .007" height difference between the two. At the shop I work at we work to the .0001" so this deviation is actually a lot to my standards.

I did some research earlier and according to Gates the rule of thumb for V-ribbed drives the total misalignment can be 1/16" per foot. Taking that into consideration the hub is unacceptable in the flush position but by pressing it further we are getting closer to the tolerance and the deviation between the pulleys should still be within tolerance assuming the crank pulley and idlers are at zero from TRD/Magnusons doing.

Which is what Grant and I have done. We actually stopped about .010” short of the full depth that my modified press tool would have allowed. We saw that the back of the hub was about to contact that washer that is being retained by the snap ring. Hope that makes sense. So, in all actuality, we pressed them on about .175 beyond flush with the tip of the shaft.

I measured the exposed shaft, the original pulley hub thickness, and the new hub adapter thickness and there should be about .250" of daylight between the original pulley and seal. (I am running a different seal so it might vary a few thousands.) So in theory we could push the adapter up to .250" before making contact and we are looking at about .159" so there should still be clearance between the hub and seal.

So just got around to inspecting my pulley.. and noticed an unusual edge on the outside lip. I believe the outside surface is untrue. Not sure if it was bandsaw'd and milled, or faced off with a mill.. but it's noticeably off.

    IMG_20171212_175159.jpg

I'm going to measure it tomorrow with some callipers..

Defective from my point of view, I'm gonna inspect mine really carefully now... prior to getting them in hand I had assumed they were high quality...

Well, mine look true to the naked eye, spinning to the best of my ability without a lathe and dial indicator... But I did notice that the 2.8 fit much looser on the hub than the 2.5 pulley, which I had to rock with some force to get it onto the hub.
