Ya I am familiar with Darkhorse and the Sodom and Gomorrah engagements y’all had. One of our Gunny’s might have been from Darkhorse, I can’t say remember for certain.

This was about 350lbs of steel I picked up today - 3/4 of it is for these stiffeners, the remainder is for random stuff I might have to make or mock up with (16 gauge).

Hoping to get @NoOne template early enough to apply my adjustments though it might push back cutting another day or two since I'll need to redo all my CAM.

Moved around another few hundred pounds of steel and tools around the garage

It's in shambles right now so I'm hoping I get it all back together by Sunday.

Apologizing to 2nd batch in advance :bananadead:

Going to be a slight delay; FedEx seems to have lost my table legs so I've got a 150lb hunk of steel on the ground along with other stuff.

    20240824_095113.jpg

The addition of a second welding table would give me more work space but at the moment I can't place items anywhere else without the second table being up.

    20240824_095045.jpg

Going to see about getting another set so I'll keep y'all posted.

I will say, I can't wait until it's up cause it looks damn good.

    @NoOne

Thank you again for drawing and cutting this out and sending it to me.

Just want to confirm, this is the correct side up?

    20240824_152232.jpg

And do you mean for me to push the metal piece up against the paper edge for alignment like this?

It was placed on the wheel side of the body plate and the markings are from the taillight side. I folded the top of the template while using a backlight to align the holes when marking the first bracket’s slot centerline. Ask away.

EDIT: No, no need to push against the edge… that’s where the bed edge stops and would be as far as you could move in that direction.
EDIT2: Unless the intention is to be butted against the bed. I did not try the bracket against that edge AND the bottom edge tight. My belief would be to avoid friction between the two, since the plate will win the battle. A small gap should exist there to me.

    Unrelated to inner stiffies…

I need two other 90” w/ “feet” and the dual slinger stuff.

Anyway, I’ll run acetone on the stuff @Kwikvette sent me and spray paint them tomorrow. Carry on!!

    Garages a mess.

    Working on my friends Tacoma.

    Yeah I'm good

I'll touch base with you afterward about the hole/alignment thing once I'm close to being able to cut again.

But one question, does it make more sense to just omit the slots near the large hole? I ask because two people stated how the part is too thick to allow the plastic inserts that hold the wiring to go through.

The ONLY reason it was helpful for me is orientation/alignment. Otherwise, if it’s not oversized, it’s not particularly helpful. I could see a case where someone might use a bolt/nut to hold the L in place while assembling, but that’s as far as my imagination took it.
I was thinking about how to correct the issue last night and reasoned - don’t change bracket #1, instead, correct the hole placement in #2. You already have the spacing correct, it’s just where they are/angle. I wish I had thought to mark the top/bottom of #1 on the template when I had it corrected. It can still be done, but it would have helped.

EDIT: Thinking critically, would it make more sense for #1 to have the nuts and #2 to have misalignment slots? (Diagonal down, away from bed)

I plan to use the slot(s) for attaching a small plastic L-bracket to use for wire management through the larger hole.......... I like the idea of keeping the factory holes. Just my .02. :)

You'd have to share what part is what.

I call the L bracket, an L bracket.

The bracket that receives the large bend, I call it the internal bracket

The exterior bracket is, the exterior bracket

    #1 is internal
    #2 is L
I was using the reference as to installation order.

I just looked at it… if the slot hole size used on “internal” bracket was used on slot hole on “L”… the issue goes away… if the holes line up.

I suggested that a few pages back.

No nuts welded with slotted holes, but the majority voted against it as it doesn't affect functionality.

I'll toy with the angling and whatnot on the L bracket to match your template. Thinking maybe tomorrow in terms of the drawing part of it.

Need to find out where my legs are for the new welding table since FedEx shipped them back to the east coast :bananadead:

I’m referring to the slot near the large hole. If you used the larger size as used on internal bracket.
