Personally, I think the sandwiched version of what you showed me would work best.

Being sandwiched means it's really supported by the hefty 3/16" thick tie down bracket.

    20240715_160903.jpg

Not a whole lot is going to really go passed the bed itself and what will, is supported anyway.

    Goal -

To get hardware in by Wednesday, then ship by Thursday or Friday after I weld the hardware on.

Pushing to get these finalized as I know many of you want to put a deposit down already.

Tonight I'll be calculating about 99% of all costs and labor associated.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can say that my offer to put down a deposit was more to help you with early costs rather than a request that you rush this job.

I do appreciate your desire to ride the ADHD train while the project is hot though!

This. I want to offer support but at no added stress to rush any finalized product.

Grade 8 is an SAE rating. 10.9 is close enough, next step is 12.9 but is way overkill.

If 10.9, then probably black oxide as it’s high carbon steel.

It's the ADHD that makes it happen

    Ordered some hex bolts.

Have enough button head in the event that some pre-orders would rather go that route.

Yep, black oxide for the button head bolts.

A simple “fix” would be split gas line on the loop part of the D.

Sure, there are several ways to protect the edge. The D rings that were posted back a few pages is another option that wouldn't even encroach on the bed.

Split gas line only comes in one color.

Not that I would purchase them to sell with these stiffeners, but yeah some may want to buy their own loop.

    20240715_171727.jpg

Bought a 4 pack so only two people can opt to buy these with their purchase and skip being forced to buying a 4 pack (you only need 2 total).

Risking function creep here, there is a thread that I've seen that adds a new bolt which allows you to move the tailgate stays to a different position, which makes the tailgate stop on an angle such that the top edge is flush with the top of the wheel covers in the bed. Which means you can slide a sheet of plywood in and support the trailng end.

I'm not sure where that bolt needs to be.

I went hunting, this is one thread over in second Gen.

And here is a thread with the official Toyota bolt part number...

It looks to be inline with the bottom bolt meaning about 1/2" to 3/4" of the exterior bracket will interfere with such a bolt. Specifically the bottom corner towards the tailgate.

Unless there a specific demand, I don't think it warrants caution.

Solution would be to "notch" the bottom corner of said bracket as it wouldn't interfere at all with mounting.

I'm not going to tag everyone

But if the steel price hasn't changed from 2 months ago for a 4' x 8', I can confidently price these at -

$150 shipped per set, all hex head bolts, bent, hardware welded.

$155 shipped per set, hex head bolts for inside hardware, button head bolts outside, bent, and hardware welded.

That's if I can ensure each set is nice and secure in each flat rate box.

That brings the price per set to $135 and $140 respectively (if you wish to pick up locally).

A call tomorrow to my metal supplier will dictate final cost just to be safe.

Does this seem fair for everyone?

I've kept any and all labor, material spent, etc. completely out of the above price as it was all done voluntarily.

Copy that, standing by with a blank cheque. :spending:

You are right the button looks clean.
But I know I will strip them. Haha.

Curious what if you went with a E-Track hole?
That way one can utilise a load bar across the bed or any e-track accessories. That way it won’t be limited to a hole?

I’m just asking cos all my commercial trucks Use E-Track and some Airline track. It may be beneficial for some use case.

Had to look it up, looks cool!

Definitely not something I can make

Looks like it requires some sort of punch or something to cut and push the ears inward on that opening.

It's too bad I don't have a big hydraulic press, CNC laser, and other cool shit I only hope to own one day :spending:

    @BluberryBCtaco

What do you think these bed stiffeners should be classified as?

I've shipped to Canada before, and it's always interesting looking up an item classification.

Forgot what I used for metal dino's but I think I listed it as a toy puzzle last time I shipped one to Canada?

    Seems completely fair IMHO.

Also... Button heads for the bed
