If the pipe slide method doesn't work your probably going to destroy the oem shaft, and break the splines off. A 100 ton press will make short work of this, but apparently it takes between 50 and 80 tons.

    Alternatively:IMG_20200619_133713590.jpg
Cut the axle off just below the birfield joint, shot enough out can spin it around to get the joint apart, long enough to have some left to grab with a vice.

Then notch the top with a grinder to get through the case hardening. Then drill out the shaft to 3/4" diameter, and 3/4 inch deep.

Now you can use a 12 ton press and a short 5/8 bolt to break the splines

Looks like fun......Also, this prompted me to call CVJ for the outer birfield that we discussed. They've had soooo many requests (you know you are) for outers that they will no longer sell component and only complete axles with cores. Also Lotus development will only sell complete axles.....So aside from reusing your stock outer, it looks like your next best bet is going to be new outer's through Toyota. We're going to need to come up with a source for some 300m outer parts.

I've got two sets of axles in my for sale thread, one set is ripe for using for the 934 upgrade as the inner boots are starting to show stress cracks... and the other set is completely pristine compared to what I see in pics here..

From AZ, where the humidity is single digits and there is never any salt on the roads... I haven't had a single stuck bolt on the whole truck, ever. I'm sure the axles are good to go and would come apart easier than what is pictured!!

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Gotta get in for the steering setup but is there any possibility or discussion for another LCA setup group buy?

Not immediately. But there's always a possibility if we gen enough interest.

Problem is it's a 29 spline stub shaft. I'd like to see RCV make one, but they aren't answering phones this week.

Here's how you'll save the fancy axle you just bought if you blow an outer CV and can't get the shaft out of the joint.

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
Wouldn't heating up the birfield (not HOT enough to effect the temper) help with getting it off? Heat = expansion. They are in there so tight, it's almost like they are sweated onto the shaft.

The heat may simply expand the snap ring too and not make it easier.

What's the solution to preventing having to go about this by asking nicely with a cutoff wheel and a cold chisel?

Unless you get lucky and the pipe drop method works on the snap ring, you can only save either the shaft or the birfield, one of those has to be sacrificed to disassemble the assembly. Which component you want to reuse will dictate what gets destroyed.

Exactly. Definitely try the pipe drop first, but have a plan B.

Don't break an outer CV with your fancy JD Fab axle in it. This is good advice anyway

It didn't occur to me to use the tripod bearing as a point to press against to get the birfield apart.

I'll have an extra halfshaft with a good inner CV for sale shortly, I'd be happy to take it apart and just send you the inner birfield if you want.

3.0 bypass fits real nice with the 934 CV’s and the LCA relocation kit

Damn that looks good. I wish there was a wider kit though!
