I may have a couple of stupid questions but I will ask them anyway. This is my first Tacoma and I have a 2017 TRD Offroad Double Cab Short bed with the OME BP51's and BFG KO2 285/70R17 E rated tires. I am going to be putting on a topper and roof top tent and extra weight for camping. I was wonder what gears I should go with? 4.88's? Also are these Nitro Gears good? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Wow... Impecible timing... I was looking at gears on Friday. How about a TJM locker to go with it?

Regear is really about the consistent weight addition. If you've just got a topper and a tent mounted consistently along with your larger tires... Probably not worth the regear... If you begin to add armor front and rear bumper... Sliders... Full size spare etc... Definitely worth it.

How many guy's are going to add a rear locker? How often is a locker needed ? I am building my truck for overland style off roading RTT, lots of armor winch. Will be retiring soon to Flagstaff AZ. Will be out on trips alot places like Moab. Is the locker a real necessity? I wont be doing any wild rock crawling other then whats on the trails but i dont want to not have the right setup?

I wouldn't recommend the TJM locker. I destroyed mine within 10 days of install.

Huh... That's interesting... I've read mostly good things and they're heavily used out in Aussie land. Was it Warranty'ed?

I wouldn't say that one is a necessity but can definitely come in handy. I've been in spots where having one would have made a huge difference in my ability to get through an obstacle. I definitely want one in the future.

The older TJM's where made in Australia, but since TJM was sold to Summit Racing they are now made in Canada. From what I understand is when they switched production to Canada they switched from forged parts to cast parts.

Idk if TJM actually warrenty'ed it, but Nitro stepped up and put a ARB in and dealt with TJM warranty on their own time.

Thats pretty sweet! On Justdifferentials.com they have a TJM locker with the re-gear package for like $1400... can't really get much better than that. Its pretty much getting a locker 100 bucks more than the regear alone.
