Is this an alternative to upgrading a pulley or something? I'm a little confused. I recently went from my stock 3" pulley to a 2.8" smoothflow pulley.

It's the lowest, largest pulley in the setup which drives off of the crankshaft. The pulley you upgraded is the highest point of the setup. This is the lowest and the largest pulley of them all which should measure some 6.5" in ID. Here is a photo so you have a better idea of what I am referring to.

    20181026_204845.jpg

The large gray pulley, far left.

Here is a better shot of it.

Ooooohhhh! I miss the drink crank part.

So this means even more spin. Is this recommended for the guys that have gone smaller on the top pulley? I am not sure what these engines can handle boost wise.

It means you get the same boost, faster than what you already do because the rotating mass that this pulley naturally has due to its weight becoming less due to billet aluminums naturally light weight properties and once it is redesigned and re-engineered to what I envision for it design-wise.

However, if you want maximum minimum (well that's an oxymoron) rotating mass, it would be wise to change both crank pulleys with billet units.

I personally run an NST pulley for the OE accessory crank damper and while it does allow for a little faster revving the full benefits are being negated due to the supercharger drive crank pulley directly in front of it which weighs a lot due to the fact that it is just a basic pot metal ( I believe it is pot metal) pulley.

I mean that idea sounds nice.. and by all means it is.. but is it really worth all the trouble just for one extra rib? I don't even think all the work would be expensive per se, but by the time it's all said and done the parts cost would amount up to be more expensive than we would like. Not to mention all of the time we would have to invest to do something like a tensioner relocate. I cantc even visualize how we can do a tensioner relocation honestly.

The benefit would really be the larger crank pulley allowing us to revert back to larger OD supercharger pulleys for more contact area around the circumference of a larger pulley. We'd just need a new tensioner bracket. That would be the hardest part.

If you can make a drawing of some sort of what you envision than that would be extremely helpful in showing me what you mean. I know what you are saying, its just that given how tight it is in there I really don't see what else we can do.

I agree with this. While it would be super nice.... is it worth the hassle and cost?

Believe it or not it may cause interference issues. The fitment in there is that tight. However, being that my idler pulley for my beef tensioner is a 50mm and not a 54.58mm as OE is would allow me to run a 6.6" pulley as my idler is .1 inch smaller over original OE design.

UPDATE: It turns out I have the full CAD drawings necessary for this to become a "thing." I'm going to message @XPOTRPR and I'll send him what I got. We'll see how we go from there. If everyone is on board we can make a pulley .1" larger over OE flavor which would offer up to 1-1.5 psi over what we are currently seeing without having to touch Qwickchange pulleys, however most members would need to upgrade to the Roush unit and change the pulley to the 50mm LFP double bearing roller as has been discussed in the tips/trucks thread.

    Boom that’s 10!

Am I also correct in thinking if we have the larger crank pulley + roush tensioner we shouldn’t need the shorter belts depending on the the upper pulley size. So maybe a 2.7 could get away with the stock belt size basically.

    Added!

We could make a pulley which is .100 larger than the stock OD.. however, the collective group which is part of the 10 would have to agree with doing so. I want to make this clear. If we go with a pulley larger than OE size EVERYONE will require a Roush or Thump tensioner utilizing a 50mm doubler bearing roller idler pulley retrofit. I can personally run this along with a small handful of others who already are set up as well.

If you do this there WILL BE NO reversion back to OE sized and pulley sized flavoring tensioners! Once and if your tensioner is on the fritz, a direct replacement of that aftermarket offering will be required from that point forward. A larger belt which is OE sized would be able to be used with a 2.7 - 3.0 size supercharger pulleys. No further modifications will be required to run this larger crank supercharger pulley other than the supercharger crank pulley itself.

The benefit will be decreased slippage at the supercharger pulley which will negate the pressing need for so much of a wrap style pulley mod up top. This WILL increase your current boost up by 1 - 1.5 psi after installing it due to the crank pulley now offering an "overdrive" to the supercharger. Effectively spinning it faster by about 240 - 250 rpm total than it is currently spinning.

The version pulley color which will be offered as a default to everyone will be virgin billet aluminum in full silver. Great for stealth inspection purposes for those with state inspections. In case they decide to look down there.

Any further questions, please tag me in your posts as I am not being alerted if there are posts in this thread for some reason.

I would be down for the bigger pulley group buy. Do we have a link or part number for mentioned 50mm roller. I already have the Roush tensioner but replaced the roller with the Magnuson one that came with the blower.

The link is to a company called LFP based out of Texas. More info can be found on it on the TRD/ Magnuson tips tricks and mods thread on page 1. You can either order them from their eBay ad or from their website directly. The double rollers original application belongs to a 2012-2015 Camaro ZL1.

I’d be down for the over-sized pulley. I haven’t purchased the tensioner or 50mm roller yet. Was waiting to see what we ended up doing here for a final version.
