I agree, time is money. And Riverside straight up is not a fun place to drive to.

Glad we aren’t having gear related issues. Usually if you have no issues after the heat cycling, you’re good to go. Unless you snap something offroading then it’s all on you haha!

    I had an issue.

Front driver side axle seal. Took it back and they replaced it and everything has been seemingly solid since. Will go check for any leaks or issues again and update if any found. Otherwise gears have been great, some whine at speed and more apparent on decel, not sure how much is too much or to be expected but it’s not crazy loud, similar volume to tire noise but at a higher pitch. Also not sure if they installed the master kit or not as I didn’t watch them do the install. My appointment was May 22nd.

I have decel whine too, especially in the 70mph range. Hard to hear over all the wind noise and tires, but its there.

I’m getting answers about the master kit right now

Really hard to see the actual number of people who had no issues after install when the majority of the feedback on this post is all about leaks, loud noises, etc.

Because all the people with no issues are happily driving haha. They finished the groupbuy and dipped out of the thread, and I don’t blame them.

I’m like on the cusp of calling Mario to put my money down, but i need to know that it’s a simple gasket and that the issue can be taken care of by purchasing OEM gaskets.

Also the post about broken stud was misleading because it was actually a tool that broke not the truck’s wheel stud. Super misleading

At the end, i want to hear... only three trucks had an issue and all could have been resolved with OEM gasket because (NO BRAINER FIX). The good new is ... no one has any gearing issue meaning they are all getting installed correctly.

I hope they have a check list, so they can check mark every time they complete a job because everyone will feel better about what is being checked. Heck we can print it and bring it the day of if they aren’t offended.

Socalexpeditions: Thank you for your time in doing this; i know a group buy can be a pain

Answer for the Master Kit question:

“Hey Brotha! Hope all is well.

We do use install kits, not from Nitro. We buy direct from Timken (OEM) for Toyota application.

Nitro has gear noise, it’s normal. We have notice it’s a hit or miss. Now the Revolution brand has no gear noise, however the Toyota community is stuck with Nitro and they follow the trend thinking they are the best. I’ve tried to educate or customers so they know. Don’t get me wrong they are a good brand.”

I have this as well. Heck I had this stock. I have noticed after more miles on the regear it is getting less noticeable.

Just so I'm reading this right, PWG gets the gears only (not master kit) from Nitro Gear. All the necessary seals they get from Timken.

Unfortunately, I do not have much knowledge about cars in general unlike most of you. Unless there is noticeable leak, I won't be able to tell if the job is done 100%.. Honestly, I don't even know why I have to worry about this when I'd invested good about of money to have the professionals do it. I'm at little over 500 miles with gear oil replaced, so far so good. I'm planning to get some work done by RPM garage after July 4th weekend so I might just have them inspect the vehicle for me..

    Yes you are correct.

That includes all the bearing and other stuff too.

I’m glad they use Timken seals since they’re higher quality.

If it works, it works. I’m at 6k miles now. And very hard miles, lots of long mountain passes and I use 4Lo almost everyday.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but are they reusing the bearings or using new ones?

so if they are using OEM seals, are the leaks that people are complaining about because they re-used old seals by accident? Or is it incorrect installation?

I asked about my old stuff and Carlos told me I could have it or they could toss it for me. Looked like there were old seals and bearings in the pile, but honestly I couldn’t tell you. When I spoke with Miguel I asked and he said everything was being replaced and gave me the list to include bearings. If I’m not doing the work I like to know the details as if I were so I know for the future. I didn’t have a garage At the time otherwise I would have done it myself on a whim and learned the process. I’ve put about as much miles on my truck as SoCal since getting it done with back and forth trips to the sierras with a good amount of decent strain on the diffs and have had zero issues aside from the whinning decelerating from 60-45 mph which from Nitro and the 5.29 mega thread seems to be normal and I kind of have grown to like it. RPMS are lower than the chart shows and I drive around 70-75mph constantly. My local shop who changed the fluids and rotated tires didn’t say anything about over torqued lugs or diff plugs either. If you have some concerns Miguel will address them as he did with me without issues.
