I use the 3M film from ClearMask. It comes in 2 or 3 thicknesses. I'd use the thicker film if you expect hits from gravel.

    http://www.clearmask.com/vehicle_page.php?c0=2003&c1=TOYOTA&c2=TACOMA&c7=A

The film is pretty hard to see and it cleans easily. I put it on as soon as I got new aftermarket housings for the retros.

Make sure to install it with a heatgun and the squeegee tool they provide to make sure there are no wrinkles.

    Before retros...

It was a while ago so my memory is a bit hazy but I finished off my painting at night and then waited until the next morning. I believe I used the same temperature that is suggested to bake the headlights to pull them apart and around 10 minutes. I had my oven on the whole time for both the painted parts and also to take apart the headlights but used the convection setting. I tried the method of preheating the oven and then turning it off when you put the headlights in but found it wasn't getting them hot enough. Might be my oven though as I believe when it gets turned off it has a feature where a fan runs to cool down the chamber.

I decided not to go with halo's. I like the look, and I was actually looking at a set up very similar to yours. I read of a number of people having the halos burn out and decided not to do it because I wouldn't want to deal with pulling apart the headlights every time they burn out.

There are a number of ways people are wiring them up. It just depends on how/when you want them to be on.

not much yet, I did tint the tail lights though.
Anyone know if it's illegal to tint the orange side markers in the headlights?

Has any one used the XC halos as turn signals as well as their normal functions, similar to the xsb switchbacks can be?

I don't think you can use them for both, there's only two wires so it'd have to either be blinkers or halos.. I could be wrong though

Also, without going through all 191 previous pages, are there any modifications that need to be done to the housings in order to get the projectors to fit?

With the FXRs you have to cut the back out of the housing I think. That is why most people are not using them now. I ferget now which ones LSC15 used in mine. D2s I think with the 3" projector. They just plug right in and have a metal retainer ring that fits the back of the oem housing to hold the alignment.

Ima going to look into this to. The laminx film is to thick and with the 12+ headlights the corners are hard to work film around

Yeah I tried the thicker LaminX film is like 40 mils which is way overkill. I used it on my old lights and it was hard to get the edges to stay down. The 3M film comes in much thinner pre-cut patterns like 8 and 15 mil I think. I got them both to try them out.

I would watch the 3M installation videos. Their film is pretty tough and you can pull on it and heat it and squeegee it around the contours without it tearing.

I thought the D2s you still had to grind down the back housing?

I'm pretty sure there are no mods required except to cut the shroud down depending on the shroud you get.
