It could have been that the plastic pieces were slightly moved/flexed/twisted before the paint was completely dry and that caused them to crack. That exact same thing happened to me when I was working on my satoshi grill and I had to resand and repaint the entire thing.

 

They never moved

idaho in winter.....dry as fuck in the garage it was 65 degrees and normal humidity.

more sanding tonight after i stripped everything. Then im gonna use a primer and do 2 coats with 10 min windows and then wait 2-3 days and do color paint 3 coats then wait 3 days then clear coat it if its not glossy enough.

 

For shits and giggles. Kinda blurry but whatever and going up hill, hence why it looks like my cutoff is aimed at the ground.

That's right, two cars in front of me with their halogens. Can you say width?!

 

Heres some tips I learned painting stuff, make sure your first 2 coats are super light, the first coat should look like you accidentally oversprayed from something else, the second should look like you just kinda half assedly squirted paint at it, evenly . Then put it in the oven at 200 for a few minutes to let the paint dry and that crappy looking base coat sets the tone for paintimg afterwords. It basically makes a rough surface for your next 5+ coats to really stick to. I always get impatient and get heavy handed with the paint after that, but my best stuff was always when i just kept doing light coats and building up layers. Proper painting should take you several hours lol. Then I usually wait a solid half hour before doing a final heavy coat and then tossing it back in the oven (or out in the sun if it wont fit in the oven). If you're worried about the weather or want gloss, throw on some clearcoar in the same way, but wet sand the shit out of it. In this case, clearcoat would kust add gloss and be another layer of kinda useless protectant...Now I need to follow my own advice and stop being lazy. Have had my retro kit sitting in the garage for almost a year, have had my depo lights sitting on the shelf for about 6 months now. In my defense, the 9 month old boy sitting in the living room at home takes up the majority of my time

Same here...I have a 9 month old daughter. Now working on the truck is reserved for when she's in bed at the end of the day.

 

Dude. I can't even do that because of my own laziness lol. Finally got around to buying a new, quieter garage door motor, just need to get around to installing it LOL. Right now it's like I started a lawn mower in the garage if I open or close the garage door. The new one is the same model as my buddy who just bought a new house, I didn't even know he opened his door until I actually saw it start opening, and I was standing in the garage.

So my modding is reduced to Weekends when I'm off, or weekdays when we have a babysitter to take over a half day or something.

That's just what I can see from where I'm sitting lol. #firstworldproblems My well paying job and wonderful son take up all my truck modding time.

 

what do u do for work just curious. Good list to have though maybe save it for when he older and he can help haha.

 

I'm an Operator at an oil refinery. But I also have my GI Bill college funding my truck addiction . And yeah, I am so excited for when he gets older and wants to go offroading and camping! I need a Copilot asap since the wife isnt a huge fan

 

i hear you, usually my wife just asks why i do anything to it and cant just leave it alone. She is also not that interested in camping and doesnt get driving around in the truck off pavement.

 

Definitely same here. "I still don't understand why you're wrecking a brand new truck" as I'm installing a supercharger. Lol.
