So our daughter usually grabs the mail and it’s junk and today I finally went through the pile to find a letter from July 25th to register the complaint with USPS.

“bring the package and this letter to a post office within 20 days”

Whelp that shit ain’t gonna happen! Fuck!

    Question for anyone and everyone.
So I went to install them. No big deal, needed to do some work in that area anyway. Outer tie rods are fresh install with anti sieze so they dropped right out the spindle.

counted turns to do the left side first 12.5 turns. I planned to throw away the old jam nut since I believe the sleeve replaces it to act as one and there might not be room for both.

It starts threading on smoothly. Then uhoh. Stops.
    It hits the thicker section.
So the problem is I replaced my old worn parts with Moog tie rods, probably from RockAuto.
Closest to the steering rack, the Moog inner TRE has a little step angle that turns into a thicker shaft. Which is thicker than stock by a little bit. Maybe 1mm.

the sleeve hits that and won’t go on.
I had already known about this from the beginning but forgot.
So I simply re assemble the truck how it was and drive off to figure this out later.

What do you all recommend? Should I take the sleeves to a machine shop to bore them out a little?
Or revert to a stock version?
Or maybe there is a stronger upgrade inner TRE that retains the stock diameter dimension?

I understand that if I bore the sleeve it would permanently alter it and only be able to use on Moog inner TRE’s.

I can easily measure the TRE shaft, and Sleeve ID with digital calipers, then ask a machine shop to make them work.
I can even buy one spare Moog inner TRE to hand to a machine shop at the same time as the sleeves, so they can make sure whatever shaving they do fits good.

I imagine any gap between the two surfaces would not be ideal; they probably need to be snug

I’m guessing a few people on here are in the same boat possibly already running Moog (or other) TRE’s from having replaced/“upgraded” in the past, before the sleeve design came out

I’m not sure why the Moog has a slightly (1mm?) thicker shaft towards the inside.
Maybe they thought it was their way to “upgrade” the stock skinny inner TRE into being SupremeUltimateOffRoadUnbreakableBeef by adding 1mm thickness so it is 1% thicker

    2FA33282-6F01-4AAE-98F1-C1A5EBE9881A.jpg

I thought about taking a grinder to the TRE and spinning it but that sounded like a hack job and sure way to end up with an out of round tie rod and metal dust everywhere

replacing the inner is kind of a pain. Remove boot. Replace clamp. Use special tool to loosen tie rod. Install new clamp with special pliers. But if I have to then it is what it is.
Last time I did that was a year ago on a bench when I pulled the rack out to install poly bushings

It really sucks to see future gb’s get killed because or one or a few bad apples.

These are on my list after seeing a couple from the initial gb get installed at a mod day up here in the North East.

I hear you @WarFab Armor, I see a tiny bit of that myself. Totally agree that the vast majority is just a pleasure to serve. I’ve been pretty lucky so far but even so, I’ve had a few close calls. I was amazed at how helpless the vendor is with lost / delayed / missing shipments. I’ve had to send duplicates before and that made me sad, losing money on a deal and dealing with headache and stress is not fun.

It’s unfortunate that we get people like that, but I understand your point on it, and business is business.

Oh sweet. You guys have a well deserved reputation and it shows.

Frankly if another group buy like this opens up I'm still going to push people to get in on it cuz these things are freaking beef. And I know two guys running your rear bumpers and they absolutely love them.

I haven't checked TW in a while so sorry if I missed anything, but my package was busted by UPS. I didn't have to file anything with UPS, right?
