Closing the doors on my 2012 feels cheap

Closing the doors on any vehicle gives a sense of the degree of quality. For example, when I close the doors on my 2012 Rav4 it feels and sounds like quality and luxury. When I close the doors on my 2012 Tacoma Access cab it feels and sounds like an old farm truck. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?

sound deadner in the doors makes a huge difference if you are looking for the solid thud.
check out the audio forum for suggestions. Lots of people like Fat Mat, Rad Mat over dynamat cause of price.

I dynamatted my entire truck...feels and sounds like a big body benzo. And it significantly reduced thr road noise.

Mine felt good until the first time I wheeled it and flexed the suspension out. After that it takes a solid throw to get it closed. Although it is expensive, it's still a truck and I don't expect to get luxury car quality. I just want it to last.

Its just the way the Access cabs are.. Mine is the same way. My old double cab Taco had a nice sound to the doors, but my new access cab does sound odd. I think its just bc the doors are closing on to doors. If that makes sense.

My regular cab sound great. It is so airtight that if I don't give the doors a good heave then I have to go back and try again because they don't close all the way.

I agree with this, every single access cab truck that I have closed has felt odd to me, it has to do with not having a true door pillar in the center for the door to shut on, its just relying on the access door

While these trucks are long lasting and very dependable Toyota really cheaped out on quality. I had a very similar complaint when I sold my FJ and got the Taco.

The Tacoma needs something to be competitive with it for Toyota to stop charging so much for so little, or atleast add some quality to justify the cost.

I have the same issue with my DC. It is so air tight that I find myself having to re-shut the door every so often. Mine close with a nice "thud".

As long as the doors are locked and no one can get in, who cares?

I agree about the doors. That was my complaint on my 2013 double cab. My wife has a 2006 4runner and her doors are heavier and easier to shut. My Tacoma doors feel lighter which make them a little harder to shut. I'm used to it now, but I had a hard time shutting them at first.

They sound like a good solid 'clunk' to me. Maybe I have low standards. OTOH, I've owned three Mercedes and a Lexus and this truck doesn't sound cheaper than they did. Would like to add some sound deadening though, always nice to have less road noise.

On my access cab I have to slam the doors to shut them. Sounds solid too! Not like an F150 that makes the whole cab twist when you shut the doors.

It's an access cab as they have mentioned. There aren't pillars between the doors. Closing the front door doesn't sound all that pretty and closing the rear suicide doors are fugly. I now have a double cab and just like others, I have to slam the door due to pocketing the air.
