While the engine is running, any bubbles in the coolant overflow tank?

Send oil sample to Blackstone lab for analysis. They will send you free container to submit sample.

How long for a return analysis from Blackstone?

Can you afford to park the truck until results are returned?

You could do a crude test. Place some oil into a clear container with a closed lid. Set it aside in a quiet spot. Let it sit. The oil and water will separate. You should see some separation in a day or so. Be aware. There probably will only be a small amount of water in your sample, but you should be able to see it at the bottom of the container.

If it is head gasket I would think you would see a coolant level drop and oil level rise.

What the way the oil looked in those first pics, plus you now confirmed the coolant was too low...it sounds like the HG unfortunately.

For that to happen to a 2014 is awfully unusual unless it overheated bad at one point. Are you the original owner?

A compression test should confirm one way or the other

These two are on track I think. I was thinking water ingress of some kind. Condensation makes sense too! Emulsified oil looks whiteish/frothy like photos.

I’ve had wet oil in motorcycles and four wheelers before and from my experience it’s like milked coffee not frothy

Are you saying that after sitting all the froth went away and it is just dark oil?

    Puzzled by your response.

so I didn't let it sit long enough to see if the froth went away, just took a photo and funneled it into a container. the oil underneath was just dark like used oil. I ordered a test kit and will send that out.

So update. i waited a week and changed the oil again and it was like a normal oil change, no froth this time and coolant level was good. i put a new filter on and 5w-30 full synthetic mobil 1. During this last week i didn't take any long trips over 20 miles so its possible the issue is still present, but would not replicate. I'll make it a point to take it on the road a couple hours this week and see if coolant drains and/or oil is frothy afterwards.

Wondering if i just ran shitty oil too long? I've always purchased the cheapest 5 quart deal so that could be a factor. Anyway, thanks for the insight etc. I'll try to follow up again so you can see what comes of this.

OP, did you ever send in the oil sample? I'd never heard of that before, interested to see how it went

One can never have too many light bars.
Do this and send a sample of your old stuff to Blackstone Labs and see what their test comes up with. I’ve had the condensation issue from time to time (running 5w-30) and it never produced that much of a milky substance.

Well if the oil under the foan was normal looking I would say chances are the head gasket is fine. Maybe just over filled.

Update, the oil sample test came back good, passing with flying colors. the coolant level being low may be due to seasonal temp change? anyway, thanks for input from all. see attached and thanks for recommending blackstone labs. ill be using them annually moving forward!

This is a strong possibility. Sloshing and aerating the oil with the crank.

Got a coolant leak perhaps? Check the water pumps weep hole.

Loose hose clamps on any of the many hoses?

Bad cross-over tubes due to corrosion caused by salted roads?
