Getting a clunk when shifting from reverse to drive. Although u-joints seemed fine I replaced anyway with no difference. I'm hoping it's not excessive backlash in rear end. No carrier bearing. Can Slip yoke on tranny cause noise?seems kinda sloppy on trans outputshaft. Noise also heared when slowing down and accelerating.
Wish the wife knew how to drive stick so I could Jack it up and listen :frusty:

It’s hard to know if the clunk you’re describing is bad or normal.

Every 5 speed I’ve owned, toyota or not, “clunks” a bit when you shift fairly quickly from reverse to forward, or visa versa. You’re reversing the direction everything is spinning, so it’s going to clunk a bit unless you let the tranny slow down before shifting.

The question I have is has it always done this, or does it seem like it’s getting worse?

Wheeler's/Alcan 5-pack leaf springs, OME 881's, de-badged, Jungle Fender Flares, Herculined bed, HomerTaco grille, Anzo headlights, clear corners,
Axle wrap? 1st gens have weak leaf packs that allow the rear axle to move slightly when braking or accelerating as the drive shaft is stretched/collapsed by the motion. Nothing terribly harmful to the truck but it is annoying. I know it drove me crazy, always felt like the car behind me was nudging me.
New leaf packs or an add a leaf may help

    More info always helps

    Auto or stick?
    5-lug or 6-lug?

When was the last time the drive-line was lubed, assuming its lube-able?
