I ended up removing the mounts for the PS lines and the AC line and got enough movement to fit the tools in there.

The hex bit is a 24mm if anyone was wondering. Biggest I could find was a 22mm and a 7/8 which equals 22.23mm
I wrapped some tape around the 7/8 hex to make it sit a bit tighter and that did the trick for me.

In the end it was a waste of time.. tightening the slider bushing didn’t get rid of the clunk. I even went as far to the point where the steering would not return to center. Didn’t make a difference with the clunk. Set it back to normal.

I’m now thinking my clunk is coming from between the rack and the intermediate shaft. The search continues...

btw the spring is 19mm so we found that out

Jazz! Thanks for the update! Did you by chance get a look/pic at the slider surface of the bushing? That style of cap is definietly different than my 2013. You actually have a recess for the spring on the cap side, mine is flat, and on the bushing side the spring has a pretty deep recess that the spring only sticks out 3mm or so.

Sorry it didnt solve your clunk. Have you looked at inner tie rod slop?

I found it easiest to find the cluck with someone in the truck while its off jerking the wheel back and forth pretty violently. You can safely wrap your hands around different joints to feel for slop that way.

Didn’t look inside at the bushing. It’s a hard angle to even get a tool in there.

    Inner/outer tie rods are new.

I’ll zoom in on the steering linkages when I get a chance next. I was able to get play on the u-joint at the steering shaft when I moved it back and forth with my hand. Is that normal or a that he issue?

You will want to wrap your hand around or get a real good look on the steering shaft u joints to view rotational play.

Going to bump this. @Jazz1one did you ever figure out the issue

I have clunking issues with my steering brand new inner and outer tie rods, it's either an intermediate shafts u joint (which both of them feel SOLID with no slop) or the rack gears themselves.

I have issues with clunking that I cannot locate, yet. I've narrowed it down to my steering. Like you, I replaced my inner/outer tie rods, and I just replaced my intermediate shaft. No luck. I'm going to try your slider bushing adjustment on the rack and see if that helps.

I've taken this to my trusted mechanic, but he can't find anything wrong (which is good I guess).

Please come back if you ever find this. I have adjusted my slider bushing and the steering is smooth and tight (cant go any tigher with the bushing otherwise it doesnt self center due to too much drag) but still have the clunking.... so its looking more n more like steering rack gears.
