I have a 2013 Baja. Last month I started hearing a clunk or click sound when letting off my brake when coming to a complete stop, sounds like it's coming from the passenger side rear axle. Sometimes it started before I came to the stop, sometimes after I let off the brake and hit the gas. It's driving me nuts. I greased all 4 zerks of the drive shaft that I found. I pulled both rear wheels and took apart the drum brakes. Sprayed them down with brake cleaner and put a little bit of grease on the different springs. Now, the clunk or pop is worse. Sometimes when I come to a stop sign it will do it 2-4 times. Funny how I made it worse???? wtf

You need to grease the rear brake shoes.........

    j/k;)

What you describe is almost 100% axle wrap & axle wrap for tacomas is due to weak leafsprings

Tighten your ubolts......I had the same thing, I tightened them with an impact and it went away and has not come back.

I get a clunk the first time i hit the brakes when I change between F and R. Read on here the pads are a floating design, and its normal.

Thank you JuanitoBunito! I pulled off the back tires and found that I could tighten the ubolts a little bit. I used a deep impact socket and a breaker bar and pulled as hard as I could....One of them was able to tighten about 3/4 of a turn and I think that did it!!! I drove it around all afternoon and the click/popping sound is gone!! Is that axle wrap or just a loose Ubolt? Thinking that maybe when I put my jack under my leafs to rotate my tires that it might loosen the Ubolts a little and that's what caused it??

I'm glad you got to the bottom of it!!!! Yeah it's hard to say. I've heard....and there is threads on here that the ubolts come fairly loose from the factory.....as in not as tight as they should be. Another bit of advice.....unless you have a buddy that has pneumatic tools with an impact, go to a shop and ask them to throw thier tools at it to tighten them up a bit more. I say this only because even though you were able to tighten them a little, an impact will get them really snug. Good luck bro!!

Toyota specs say 37 ft/lbs for u-bolt nuts. Some speculate it's a typo and should be 73 ft/lbs. Who knows, but it's too low.

Yeah ....there is no way in hell its 37. In a thread I saw, a Toyota tech who's a member said its a typo and it is indeed 73. He also said he feels that was too low and 90 is more of a sufficient torque spec.

I talked to a custom spring builder here in Vegas a couple years ago and he said it should be 90 as well.

I bet that is probably a standard spec that all suspension guys go by.
