Ok so my 2006 pre-runner does something strange when I'm at a red light or just waiting. I'll be waiting at the stop light and then the transmission seems to jump and make a clunk like I got rear ended. Its like its settling to find neutral or??? Could it be a torque converter problem? Has anyone had this problem or heard of this? Any info would help.
    Thanks.
    Vince.

Exactly when does it clunk? Is it when releasing the brakes? That's how my axel wrap issue happened.

There are a number of ways to fix the axel wrap issue. I clamped my leaf springs at specific locations. That's the cheap fix.

It sometimes happens when I release the brake and sometime just when I'm waiting to take off. Could it be a torque converter problem? I have noticed that the rear suspension sucks and it bottom out lately.

Don't know why you are stuck on the torque converter. Everybody knows it's the leaf springs that is the cause. They start out weak and get weaker to the point the overload leaf begins slapping against the one above it. That's the clunk you are hearing.

I think your best bet is to replace your leaf springs. That will fix both of your complaints.

I have had the same "clunking" issue. Coming to a complete stop or when I lift off the brake just a hair. Has been happening for two years. It almost feels like a transmission downshift.

I don't hear it as much as I feel it. Would axle wrap still cause this? Not sure what to tell the dealership to examine.

Mine clunked when I was stopped, normal. The other times it was just shit just moving around under the tonneau cover in the bed of the truck lol.
