    Hey everyone,

so I’ve been hearing a clunk sound when turning the wheel occasionally so I went outside to check it out.

it seems to only make the clunk noise when I am holding the break and turning the wheel pretty far. It happens basically when I am holding the break, turn the wheel all the way to one side, then when I get about halfway of turning to the other side it will make the clunk. I can feel it in the steering wheel and the drivers side floorboard.

does anyone know what this could be?

Lift on your truck? It could possibly be something hitting your sway bar in the front.

Yeah I have 2" of lift in the front. There are some scuffs on my coils but when I would turn the wheel and look it didn't look like anything was hitting the sway bar, tie rods, or anything that I could see.

Check lower control arm bolt torque if it is more of a pop than a clunk if that makes any sense...

After some research I'm pretty positive it's the lower control arm bushing/bolts. I haven't had an alignment since I got my upper control arms roughly 4 months ago but I'm assuming it either wasn't torqued properly (It was a different shop that my normal one) and has become loose or the bushings are bad (which would suck because the truck only has 45,000 miles. I tried to tighten the bolts but not knowing what I'm doing I'm not sure if I made it worse or what but the clunking is happening more so that's kind of what pointed me to them.

I will probably take it to a shop and see if they can check the torque on all of the bolts and hopefully that solves my problem.

So I took it to the shop today because I had to have them plug a nail in my tire (I can’t catch a break…) and they said they couldn’t hear it when they went on a test drive and they “shook everything down” and couldn’t find anything. I’m kind of at a loss, I really don’t want to take it to the dealership as I’m sure they will blame it on the lift (which probably is right) and charge me a small fortune to fix something. I’m going to take it to another shop on Monday and see if they can find anything.

Finally got around to going to my trusted shop. Turns out the lower control arm bushings are cracked and have some chunks missing. Kind of odd for a truck with 45,000 miles and only some mild wheeling but I guess that’s the life.

Resurrecting this thread 1 year later. Did your mechanic go back with rubber bushings? They’re dang pricey, and I’m thinking about going polyurethane to save a $.
