Ok so yesterday on my way to work after I pulled out on to the main road off of my street this clunking started. For a couple miles it was only when I was accelerating. Now it's all the time but not as bad when my foot is not on the gas. My thought right away was ujoint. There is a shimy in the truck which drove me to driveshaft issue, then the clunk while accelerating. I had been getting annoying vibrations in my steering wheel, gas and brake pedal for a while now. Just making sure I get an all around vote on it to ease my nerves.

P.S. On the carrier bracket are the nuts stationary or do I need a wrench?

You should try looking at your axles, truck at work sounded like this and everything shook with hard thumps on the floor couple nights ago and we looked under there and the axle was almost complete off

Try removing the rear driveshaft. Put in 4x4 hi. If still there then it is in the diff. If gone then in the shaft.

It would be a really good idea to thoroughly inspect those u-joints on that truck before driving any more.

almost too slow for driveshaft rotation ? Sounds more like something rubbing against a tire .
Regardless , with that much noise , it will not be hard to find

Agreed. The d-shaft is spinning so fast that if it was thumping like that it'd be way faster. We put long zip ties on buddies trucks as a joke & the slapping is way more frequent/quicker. Multiple bangs every foot or so, not once every few feet.

I'm with gearcruncher - sound like something hitting. Any chance you have a rock/stick/snow/ice etc stuck behind the front wheel rims? As it hits as it rotates it will cause the front suspension vibs. Did you jack up the front and spin the tires??

Also, get a friend to stand on the side of the road when you drive buy - in both directions and see if it sound louder on one side. I've used a long wall (i.e., behind a mall ) and drive by slowly both directions, and your friend can be outside the truck and assist in pinpointing the area (l/r F/r).
