I just tightened mine, the front ones are tricky to find, but once you do it isn’t too bad. Basically, there are 2 10mm screws at the bottom front corners and one plastic push lock on each side you need to remove to allow you to pull the inner fender/splash shield partially out of the way. Then I used a 14mm socket with 2 extensions and an elbow between them. Short extension close to the socket so you can clear some other things. By slightly moving the inner fender out of the way I was able to use the extensions and elbow to get to the bolt and tighten it to 40ish Ft-lbs, don’t remember exact number I used but found it here on TW.

I just got my truck regeared and the clunking has stopped. So logic would dictate something they took apart was loose and is no longer loose. So that may be a good starting point for others.

OK, I'm 0-for-3 on this clunk with the dealer. They did replace the body mounts at the front below the radiator, and they were both torn, but it did not solve the clunk. I would really appreciate any decent pics or vid showing where this mount is. It's hot AF here - too hot to be crawling around aimlessly. Thanks.

I had the clunking sound, sounds like it comes from the glove box, only makes noise when I turn.
Anyways I figured out it was my passenger seat making the noise when it is all the way back. I moved the seat up a little and the noise has yet to return.

    Build thread coming soon.
I found the clunk in the drivers side of my truck it is my lca's that are worn out, replacing with some dirt kings. It's the inner bushings.

Ive got a 2nd gen so it may be different, but I did new aftermarket radiator support bushings in my truck about a month ago. After my first weekend off road Ive got similar "clunking" noise somewhere in the front passenger side. Usually at slower speeds over large bumps or turning into a dip, like into a driveway or whatever.

Already checked everything was torqued to spec including the LCA cam bolts. So yes, I agree with you. If the OP and I are describing the same noise, its probably in that area

No, start checking suspension components that need to be removed to install new gears... Thought that was pretty obvious.

Edit: and the regear was $1700 parts and labor.

    Hi all,

got what I think is a valuable update. Took it to the dealership once again - the same place where I got my truck. They did my T-case fluid change as asked, but advisor came back saying that the mechanic test drove it and there won't be anything they can do for me, as it only occurs when driving over bumps at "excessive speeds". Obviously a BS. Stood my ground and really, got in an argument with him. Told him let's hop in one of your truck on the parking lot and drive over the same bumps at the same speeds. If no sound, I'll walk away. "That doesn't work that way, it is obvious that you offroad your truck". The good ol' blame it on offroading.

Thankfully, their head mechanic was there that day (Saturday) and we figured it out. Good solid guy, I've worked with him on some other issues before. Turns out there's two issues that typically cause this and Toyota knows about this. Last time they flew out their Japanese engineers to their dealership, they spent two days figuring out what causes this. There might be a TSB for this down the road.

    1) Don't remember the terminology, but there are two bolts I think on the lower control arm, where they attach to body, not the wheel. Apparently, initially they were supposed to be torqued to 60ft/lbs, later toyota changed it to 90 because they would loosen up and cause this sound, but at their dealership they torque it as hard as they can by hand. they're kinda hard to get to and he had a special wrench for it. This did not solve my issue.

    2) <blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="a/4AaLbd9"><a href="//imgur.com/a/4AaLbd9"></a></blockquote><script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Hope this helps some of you.

Yeah when I was reading his first bullet point I was already concluding he was on to the fix... riiight up until I read "This did not solve my issue". WTF? The links are broken too! :smack:

I tried to edit my post, but somehow got locked out and can't post. Tried reaching out to a moderator but no response yet. Had to create a new account, didn't mean to leave you hanging. Sorry for the confusion

Here's the picture of my warranty work write up I tried posting in the previous post. This took care of the issue!
