I have a 2011 tacoma and I have noticed that the front suspension makes a clunking noise whenever going over road gaps, potholes, bumps etc. I have king coilovers with SPC upper arms and just replaced the upper ball joints and inner tie rods but still its makes the same noise (I'll post a video to this soon). The noise sounds like metal on metal clunking and is really annoying especially offroad! Could it be my lower ball joints or something else? Any help is much appreciated. I have 95k miles and the lowers have never been replaced.

I had a weird metal to metal clunk from the front end and some member said that the brake pads were probably worn down clunking around; I thought “yeah, okay.”

As it turned out I put new (thicker) pads on and the clunk went away. :notsure:

And is the wheel straight when it happens or turned? I have had a clunk for years only if the wheel is turned since added a lift, I have retorqued everything there is to tighten. Never goes away.

Here is a video of what it sounds like, I have no idea what it is. The brake pads....I have definitely never heard of that before but good thing it went away!

Did you just get an alignment? Check the LCA bolts front and rear. They should be at least 100 lb/ft

Check your driver side CV axle near the diff. It might be wobbling around. It is a common problem when a lift is added. I only hear mine at low speed over speed bumps

Could this be the culprit? It wiggles on both passenger and drivers side...

From the video, it wiggles but looks normal. If your needle bearing (inside the diff) was bad you would have alot more movement.
Second idea, check that your main UCA bolt is tight. The one on the coilover perch. Not visually, with a wrench.

By chance when yours did this was it intermittent and hard to recreate on some instances but then seemingly impossible to make stop on others?

I can't seem to pinpoint where it's coming from either. Everything seems pretty snug

This might be a long shot, but have you checked the cross member and front diff mounting point?

FWIW I have the OME BP51 setup with SPC UCAs, they were installed at 3,000 miles and it has made the same noise since installation. I have torqued everything to spec multiple times but the noise persists. After reading a few posts, I attribute the noise to the coilovers topping out. I’ve just learned to accept it as normal.
