Will that still work if I got grease on the face of the pads ? Like what if I literally dolloped on some lube to the face because I was tired and not paying attention?

    Yes it will work.

If you’re really worried, you could spray some brake cleaner on them.

Sounds like what my truck was doing before I replaced the Upper and lower control arm bushings.

The grease on the pads wont hurt anything. And it wouldn't cause the clunking sound. They might not be as effective at first but would burn off rather quickly. My previous post, I only mentioned brakes...should have been brake pads. you tried old brake pads and had same result. Which old pads didn't make sound before. I am still leaning toward that new caliper. Important....did you grease caliper pins? If not, pull them and grease 'em up. drive it again. If it doesn't go away, look into returning that new caliper and asking for another one.

I don’t see how those flimsy caliper pins do anything except keep the pads from popping out? So grease those up and I’ll try and bed the pads. If no luck then I’ll agrre with you on a bad caliper

Put those pads to bed and it all worked out..... then tried buffing the clear coat on my 3rd brake light(cab brake) and I buffed through the tint and clear and cracked the red oem lense... now I can’t find just the lense online

Well, I'll be! I never had any issues changing calipers, rotors , pads. Expect , the someone I knew that had a comparable situation who, changed their calipers and one of them was bad. And never heard of the "bed" thing. Glad you have it fixed! It would drive me crazy too!!

well shit, that explains my brake clunking too most likely...I did my pads/rotors a few months ago and have had this odd clunking sound when braking at slow speeds especially when everything is cold (right after start up)..that's when it's loudest. Gets quieter as things heat up. I totally forgot about the bed in procedure

Did you just end up replacing your pads/rotors again or live with it?

I caught it right away and hadnt really driven on them. I then did the bedding procedure and it stopped immediately. You can google how to bed brakes, may be worth it to try it and see if it fixes it, or you may need new pads. Sorry man I dont know for sure. Cheapest thing would be try bedding them, albiet late, and see what happens

Probably too late...it's been awhile and quite a few run and gun offroad trips lol. Good thing I guess I got the pads for free from Amazon...bought pads and rotors from them but they accidentally shipped me rotors for 2nd gens then just refunded me for everything. Had to buy the rotors from Pep Boys so I could get the job done but ended up with free pads, which I'm guessing is what I should replace since they weren't bedded in properly. Won't be too big of a deal
