Clutch adjustment

Anyone have a PDF for adjusting the clutch pedal, don’t really care to try to figure it out myself by tinkering…

 

The official FSM basically states upper and lower limits then says figure it out by tinkering so dunno what you're really going for here.

There's not much in the way of adjustment, you loosen the nut on the MC shaft and turn the shaft up or down, there is no actual adjustment of the clutch.

So long as the engine is decoupled fully from the trans through the clutch when the pedal is down you're about as adjusted as you can get.

The rest is just positioning for comfort really.


You can get a little better pedal position by doing the FJ cruiser steel pedal swap but that requires a couple parts and potentially a little spot if weld.

 

I’m trying to preload my bearing to stop the idle squeak is all.

You can't really do that from the pedal unfortunately due to how the system is designed.

 

Yeah actually you can. It’s just a matter of knowing what your doing once you know the system. I’ve just never messed with this system before…

 

Are you adjusting for dead travel? I did this to mine and it was much better.

I don’t care about your buddies opinion man, I’ve been turning wrenches long enough to know… I’ve got what I need I don’t care about your opinion, I asked for a pdf and got that’s all I needed.

 

Okay Jeff not like I used to be a Toyota tech or have taken hours of my own life to attempt to reverse engineer this stupid system (hence my FJ cruiser pedal shenanigans) or anything.

I was simply tagging Gearcruncher in the off chance case I was wrong or he knows something special because there's always room to learn new things but if you like doing it the hard way by all means only trying to help.

Yeah that's the thread that I had in mind and it basically says what I remembered; it can't be done.

In the very least it certainly can't be done by pedal adjustment, I suppose you might be able to make a 1/16" or 1/8" shim for the bell housing if you want to go that route but no telling what all cascade implications that would have.

Irregardless, you can't help those that don't want to be helped so as far as OP goes: set to ignore; I'm done wasting my time.

Why the hostility Jeff?

 

Not doubting your mechanical abilities but you really should read through the link about clutch adjustment. I believe what you are trying to do will work in quieting your chirp, but it will drastically shorten what life you have left in the TOB.
Those bearings weren't designed to spin all the time.
