So I was driving down a canyon the other day, lots of engine braking due to the prolonged steep grade to not cook my brakes. Got to the bottom and when I went to leave the intersection (now on flat urban roads) I had lost the clutch (could barely limp it to a nearby parking lot, ended up towing it home). I originally thought my master cylinder had failed (checked the slave and tried bleeding the clutch and got a bunch of air out), sucked a bunch of air into the line and wasn't allowing the clutch to become fully engaged (explaining why I couldn't put power to the wheels). After I replaced the master and bled everything, I took the truck for a test drive and had clutch power back (felt normal driving, going through gears). During the test drive I noticed the truck makes a grinding noise while engine braking and makes a metallic clunk when the engine is powered off and the truck is stationary. This shut down clunk happens regardless if the clutch is engaged or not. I had a hard time believing it could be the clutch assembly as I did a clutch job a year ago (Aisin kit). I dropped the transmission and everything looks and feels normal. Clutch looks good, release bearing is affixed to the clutch fork, pilot bearing is smooth. So now I'm at a dead end and hoping someone has some insight for my issue. Sorry for the long post.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    Towed it Home??

Loaded on a Roll Back and brought home .

If it had the rear axle on the ground the rear drive shaft was removed?

Before the Master Cylinder failure you had no strange noises??

Sorry should've clarified it was brought home on a flatbed. Before I had no noises outside a slipping clutch.

Took the clutch assembly apart as well and nothing out of the ordinary. No broken clutch disc springs, no loose hardware. Going to start/stop the engine tonight and see if the noise at shutdown persists. If so then obviously it isn't a drivetrain related issue.

For anyone referencing this thread in the future, ended up being a bad cat (Broken/loose media making the noise). Seems I got unlucky, and the master cylinder failure and cat failure happened near the same time which is what led me to think it had to be clutch related. Lots of messing around and wasted time later, truck drives like new again with an aftermarket cat.
