    I have an '02 4Runner that has a 5 speed swap.

My clutch and or slave cylinder have failed.
What is confusing to me is there are 2 different part numbers for the Tacoma and 4Runner clutch master cylinder.
I sourced the 4Runner master cylinder part number by looking up a 2000 which is the last year of a factory 5speed.

I searched both Tacoma and 4Runner with 5VZ.

The numbers I came up with are

    4Runner 31410-35310
    Tacoma 31410-34012

I just can't understand why there are 2 different models. Mechanically as far as the clutch is concerned they should be the same.

    Have any idea why??

I can't seem to get an answer from any of the OEM parts suppliers.

I'm wondering if one is better than the other?

Looks like the only thing I can see is that they have a different type of nut? And the rebuild kit comes with a pin on one of them? Strange. Lol.

Yeah strange. I was hoping since the Tacoma was around longer they updated the master cylinder.
    Thanks,

Despite using the same/similar drawings, the difference is where the clutch line connects to the cylinder (upward for the 4Runner, on the side for the Tacoma).

Other than the position of the line they are identical.

Bingo, I only know because I have both. You need to scope what you've got, check the hard line fitting location
You can also purchase the AISIN parts, CMT 093 = 4Runner (top fitting), CMT 030= Tacoma (side fitting)
I just bought one for my 2000 4Runner, Rockauto had decent pricing. Part even had Toyota logo faced off, so you know it's OEM.

    Thanks,

Again, I wonder why? Maybe because the 4Runner was built in Japan and the Taco in the US? Anyway, thanks all

I can also attest to that. I've bought two Aisin CMT-030 master cylinders from RockAuto. Great way to save on an OEM part.

It's unlikely to be related only to production location. The Tacoma reused the T100 master cylinder, which was built in Japan as well.

It could be due to all kinds of things, potentially even protecting space for a future component/design that never ended up in production.
