I’m fixing up a 2006 Tacoma 4.0 6 speed 4wd over the winter. When I bought it the clutch pedal was on the floor. The clutch line that connects the slave cylinder had rotted out. I have replaced it and I installed a new Aisin slave cylinder from rock auto. I have tried bleeding it a couple times now. Clutch feels like it has lots of pressure, but it grinds going into gear. I can see the clutch fork moving. I’ve started it in gear a couple times to move it around the yard and pressing the clutch doesn’t disengage the clutch enough to stop the truck. I’m going to try bleeding it some more this weekend. I’m just curious if anybody has had a similar issue. I appreciate any feedback and look forward to posting more. This forum has lots of great threads.

If the truck has been sitting for awhile the clutch disk may be stuck to the flywheel and/or pressure plate, if it won't come loose driving around with the clutch depressed you might end up having to pull the transmission and take the pressure plate off.

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into it. I didn't know that could happen lol. Theres some different posts online about different ways people have freed them up. I’ll have to try and free it up once I get the interior back together.

I can't recall seeing it happen on a vehicle but I have had it happen on several tractors and a self propelled sprayer that sat for extended periods in damp weather so I know it's possible.

This truck has been sitting at least a year. I don't know how long for sure. I had bought it from the u-pull down the road. It was a single owner truck before he sent it to the junk yard. They told me the clutch was gone but it runs around in first with no issue. Has some rust issues but the frame is solid. Still a lot of life left in it I think. Hoping to get it on the road sometime in April.

Well worst case you gotta pull the trans and put a clutch in it but hopefully you will get lucky.

Power bleed the clutch system. They tend to be a PITA because air hates to travel down.

I picked up a vacuum bleeder tonight that I was going to try. I’ll have to look into power bleeding. Worth a shot if it saves me a weekend pulling the trans.

The slave pushrod might be moving a little bit but it might need to move farther to disengage the clutch. If the clutch pedal was on the floor when you bought it that means the master cylinder pushrod was sitting like that, fully pushed in for a while. It's probably leaking

If more bleeding doesn't help my money is on a bad master cylinder

I pulled it out of the garage today after building my seat bracket. The clutch wouldn’t fully disengage but it would slip when I had the pedal pushed in and was on the throttle. Going to try bleeding it some more, if that doesn’t help I’ll order the master cylinder.

Just thought I'd update this thread since I got around to messing around with the clutch.
I replaced the master cylinder and ran a new clutch line to delete the accumulator. Neither of these fixed the issue.

I recently ordered a LUK clutch kit, and pulled the trans thinking that there was something wrong with the pressure plate.
A spring from the clutch disc had broke and it was jammed sideways not letting the clutch disengage.

Works perfect now lol. This issue had never crossed my mind as an option.

Bleed it at the slave cylinder. Pump the rubber boot by hand. You will hear the air in it
