I have a '99 Tacoma Ext Cab TRD. Every now and then when getting in the truck after it sits overnight the clutch pedal will go to the ground with no resistance when I press it and won't return when I release.

If I pull the pedal back out with my foot and then re-press a few times that fixes the issue and I'm good to go.

When it's working, the truck drives great and the clutch shifts well. No issues there.

What might the issue be? A problem with the linkages? A bigger issue with my clutch in general? How should I diagnose this issue?

Is there a return spring? Symptoms sound like a master cylinder leak down.

    Yeah clutch MC

    all about heat
When Cold, the seals inside c MC are small
    Creating the floppy pedal

one taco at operating temperature, same seals swell up lil bit…..making c MC perform properly

Yeah, clutch cylinders (you have a master and a slave). Mine did this before total failure. I was able to use it for a while like that, but once it failed, it totally failed - was not driveable. If it had not failed in my driveway, it would have been a tow. Not knowing which one was bad, I just replaced them both. Problem solved. Not a tough job if you're handy.

There appears to be firm spring that is part of the linkage connected to the pedal. It was working to return the order last time I took at a look at it. Maybe it just needs some grease?

Seems like replacing the cylinders is the way to go then.
