Recently, my clutch pedal has been starting to click, squeak, and in general, feel like crap. When you let it out in gear to start moving is when you notice. It feels notchy, even through work boots. I only have 15k miles on my truck to date...most of them highway miles.

Anyone else had a clutch replaced, have clutch problems, anything? I am thinking they will end up replacing it under warranty, but I have not found any TSBs or anything on this forum.

I was having another issue with it over the winter, it would be VERY slow to release when it was cold, not sure if it's normal or not but I attributed it to the fluid being cold and thicker. Made it real hard to get moving smoothly.

I feel like I have all the 2nd gen problems...

My obs f350 has the same issue, though it has 250k miles on it. The pedal bushing goes bad from time to time on it causing a click, creak and sometimes other noises excessive movement of the pedal.

My Hondas were all the same. Had the clutch master replaced in my RSX-S like 3x, my first si was having the problem (sold) and had it replaced in my 2nd si twice. Looking forward to a clicky, squeaky pedal in a tacoma. At least there is a 3rd pedal hahaha

Mine started squeaking at about 16k miles, but it doesn't feel really notchy or have any of the other behaviors you described. Good to know what to keep an eye out for

Why is it Pontiac figured out a way to put a silent clutch pedal assembly in my 1968 yet other manufacturers still can't figure it out nearly half a century later?

I've used disc brake grease on all the pivot points of the pedal and that has cured the problem on my Tacoma's. My theory is hot and humid weather causes whatever grease they used from the Factory to melt and or thin.

Next time this Mrs asks what you want to do tonight, just casually start hitting repeatedly and say "bow Chicka wow wow".

Cuz remember, some people call it a defect, but Toyota calls it a different view on life.

As a wise man recently said " you're either a diff half full or a diff half empty kind of person "

Someone tag the credit on that one.

i still haven't gotten around to applying it, but it's time. squeak and groan last 2k miles.

i would SO love an aftermarket clutch assembly made of quality parts (no cheesy loose plastic and all that).

It is the clutch slave cylinder. I took mine to the dealer yesterday for the squeaky clutch pedal. They are replacing the slave cylinder under warranty. Something to check out.

I had a distinct click when first depressing the pedal. It turned out that the pedal free-play (not the actual clutch free play) was way more than it should have been. The mechanism would move probably 15-20 mm before the pedal would make contact with the master cylinder rod up under the dash. The click was the two parts coming together. I found the adjustment procedure in the service manual and eliminated the click!

Here's a link to the original thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...od-free-play-no-more-clicking-warning.485365/

The slow release in cold weather is a common complaint. Mine is slow AF below around -10C. The 3rd Gen has an accumulator in between the clutch master and slave cylinders. The little beast lives on the side of the tranny under a cover. I'd bet a nickel it doesn't help. I've read some 2nd gen owners have bypassed them with good results... worth a look once the warranty is up.

i reported this to my dealer on Friday during a 15k service, and the writer wrote: clutch pedal groan at top of travel.

service finished, service tech writes: clutch does not engage, cannot reproduce, no service provided.

    huh?

...had to leave, squeaks better than ever!

    all tore up already
I have all the same issues. But mine started from day 1. One is a high pitched squeak from lack of any sort of lubricant in the pivot bushing, one is a low toned groan from the return spring which causes kinda jerky motion and the clutch pedal is ridiculously slow to return at first on cold mornings. Had 2 dealers look at my truck 4 times for squeaking, last time they had a field technical supervisor out there to apply lube n tell me its as good at its ever going to get and they cant do anything else.

Im convinced a small piece of brass shim stock or similar soft metal inbetween the return spring and pedal would solve a lot of issues but i havent come across any without ordering a lot. I love the manual i hate the clutch in my truck. Seriously thought a lot about possibility of swapping entire pedal and hydraulic assembly out but not sure how id even get started

i have also thought about this, about creating my own solution, but this is beyond my comfort zone with the mechanical bits. hoping to find some kind of solution, not just for the squeak, but for the general feel. I've got an expensive truck and it feels like it all around except under my left foot,,, where it feels cheap af.

I had the groans, the squeaks/creaks and click in my clutch pedal on my 2003 Tacoma. Man this is bringing back so many memories. I remember it took several dealer trips to get it fixed and don't believe it was ever truly resolved. IIRC I laid on floorboard, squirted white lithium grease everywhere and anywhere I could on the clutch pedal assembly. Even got some of that crap on my carpets. IIRC it seemed to help a little or at least temporarily. Eventually Toyota had to replace the entire clutch pedal assembly, bad bushings or something...that's all I really remember them saying on the service record and who knows if that was an accurate description of what services they actually performed. Definitely an annoying problem but one that I was willing to overlook for the rest of the truck.

Now the third gen has about 5 or 6 of these issues that I am just fed up with...but that's another story.

I have had different experiences with the cold weather release, in my 2008 the clutch got its fluid from the brake reservoir and it did not have any slow release issues. My 2015 and 2017 have a separate clutch reservoir on the fender and both suffer from slow release.
