Hey everyone, I recently purchased a 98' Tacoma 4x4 with a manual trans. Right away I noticed how hard it is to depress the clutch. It's to the point where the balls of my clutch foot are freaking hurting from driving the truck! I have 2 other manual transmission vehicles and those clutches are much nicer to drive. It also seems like the travel is short. The previous owner stated that the clutch had been replaced and I can see that the slave is brand new. Anyone have any ideas or have the same issue with thier clutch? Thanks.

maybe he put in a high performance clutch with stronger springs? if its as bad as you say then I would replace the clutch with a standard replacement one because I cant think of any reason it should be hard to press.

first thing to do though is confirm the linkages will move free and easy but if it were a linkage im sure it would be binding and not working correctly

Hey Rich . You do have a hydraulic assisted clutch and it shouldnt be as difficult to depress the clutch pedal unless the previous owner installed some kind of aftermarket heavy duty clutch assembly .
Check the color of the oil in the clutch master cylinder . Is it dark or nice and clean ?
It is possible the master is starting to fail . Is the fluid topped up ?

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I have looked to make sure there is no binding and everything seems free and clear. As for the oil in the clutch master, it's topped off and somewhat clean....so a failing clutch master may produce these symptoms? Dang, that would be nice! It would sure beat swapping out the clutch. It is a very odd clutch feel, I have driven manuals all my life! In fact my main driver is a manual and the clutch is way easier and has much better travel. With this being said, the truck shifts fine and does not seem to have any slipping going on.
