Hello to everyone I'm a newbie here only my 2nd post, Ive done several searchs on my problem but haven't found an answer yet. I just bought a 99 4cyl 5sp 4wd reg cab and I finally found the source of my rattle under the dash, its my clutch pedal, if I stick my foot under it while goin over bumps it gets quiet so I know what it is now how do I fix it? The truck has 140,000 miles so I know there are things that are bound to be wore out but the truck is super nice and super solid so I wanna fix it right. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

is the pedal just loose? how much play does it have before it actually engages?

Running into the same problem. Slight rattle in the pedal itself. When I use my toes on my left foot to push or rest slightly on the clutch pedal it stops, so I know its just minor play in the pedal. Any bushings or something in the assembly that could need replacing?

    4-cylinder or 6?

Also, nice job. You resurrected a ten year old thread.

Well first check to make sure the moiunting bolts are all tight. After that, the v6 has a weird coil spring for the return spring. It you can get your head under there with a flash light you can see it. The plastic bushings on it wear out and the spring starts wearing a deeper knotch in the tab it sets in on the clutch pedal. When this happens it caused all kinds of problems. Could easily be causing your problem.

Easiest fix is to replace the coil spring with a linear one. Pop that coil spring out. Just put a screw driver in-between it and the bracket and pry it loose. Then get a brake pedal return spring and put it on instead. Easy to install. There is a rod with a grove in it on the pedal one end goes on, and a tab with a small hole in it up under the dash that the other end goes in. The 4 cylinder models use a linear spring so the connection points are already there. I don't guarentee this will fix your problem, but it's easy to do and inexpensive.
