My clutch recently started slipping intermittently in higher gears in my 2010 Tacoma Access Cab 2.7 MT. I have read other threads/posts that this is a common issue in 4-cyl. Since my truck has 77K on it, Toyota is claiming this as a wear item and offered to install a new clutch for $1,950. Needless to say I declined and now I am looking into my options. I have a claim in with Toyota corporate, but I am waiting to hear back.

I live in northern MA, near the NH border, does anyone know of a good mechanic/factory certified, that could install a new clutch for me? A few shops I talked to said to have the dealership do it. Any advice would help.

The dealership is correct in that the manual transmission clutch is considered a wear item. Most manufacturers do not warranty them after 15k. Same with your brake pads. A wear item. Sometimes though corporate will do a "goodwill" warranty repair if you are a good customer.

Yeah, I do understand their position, but I've had other manual trans Toyotas that have gone far beyond 100K. The majority, if not all of the miles have been highway. This seems premature to me

Mass production is mass production. More than likely it is not the clutch itself that is bad, but the pressure plate is a bit weak. That is the most common failure of a clutch anyway.

I am not near you but when I asked a local transmission shop about my clutch and how much it would be to replace they quoted me $800

do it yourself! havnt done a Toyota clutch yet but with a socket set, wrenches, a jack, and a buddy for moral support its not really that difficult. just have plenty of wobble extensions for your ratchet!

only one I have ever done was my brother's cummins. the nv5600 in that truck is a cast-iron bodied beast with a dry weight of 550lbs I think so we rented a tranny jack for it. shouldn't need more than a floor jack for the taco

There's a place in Manchester NH called Ron's Toy Shop. He dealt with only Toyota's at the start I think he works on everything now. Never been there but they've been around for awhile.

I though replacing a clutch was cheap. My 92 2 wheel drive Toyota pick up was like 200 bucks to replace the clutch. I guess the taco is different.
