    Gang,
Not sure if I should be concerned or not, but had a new clutch installed and hearing what sounds like a quick meshing/grinding noise when first starting the truck! I had an AISN clutch kit, new flywheel, slave cylinder and URD TOB kit installed and my mechanic said that its nothing to worry about and should go away because the clutch needs time to seat itself. I consider him pretty knowledgeable because he was a lead mechanic at Toyota, but am a little uneasy because just never heard this in any other clutch I had replaced in the past? Can someone confirm if this normal, or should I be concerned and bring it back??

    Thnx,
    Eppy

Meshing/grinding noise when starting the truck means the starter is not properly engaging the teeth on the flywheel. If it's really bad, it can take a tooth right off. I'd have it looked at again.

Thanks a million and definitely had a feeling it was something bad. Will it need to be completely broken down?

    My thoughts as well.

No, the starter is external and accesses the flywheel through an opening for the starter gear. If it were me I would simply remove the mounting bolts and remount the starter.

Not necessarily. I haven't looked at how the starter is mounted on our trucks but it may just need to be reinstalled and possibly shimmed.
