I believe my clutch has started to slip on me, and will need to be replaced (obviously I need to get this professionally diagnosed first). I planned on upgrading the clutch once this time came, to a more heavy duty clutch. My tacoma is my daily driver(metro atlanta stop and go hell, typically during non peak hours) and also sees a fair bit of off roadind through the year, in which I have been rather hard on the clutch at times, while on the trails. So I am looking to see what other Tacoma owners would suggest or actually went to, over OEM.

I came across LGE, and was wondering about their reputation and quality?
Would a URD clutch be good for my driving habits/offroad?
    Any other companies?

Thanks in advance for helpful input, and suggestions.

I'm probably get some heat or this but frankly, the OEM AISIN clutch in the 6 speed is a very good clutch IMHO and known for pretty long life. Be careful with aftermarket clutches as you may get one that has undesirable release characteristics such as chattering or stiffness or different petal throws. Some of the aftermarket performance clutches are also using the AISIN and repainting it, adding weights, etc.

A lot of people around here get a lot of miles out of these clutches. No reason to change in this case IMO.

Signs are pointing towards it starting to slip. Trust me, I'm not the kind to just replace w/o a valid reason. Just trying to get some options ready in case I'm right.

I have 137K miles on my 07 Taco with the 4 cyl. 5 speed 4 WD. The clutch still seems fine, as I just completed a long 9K trip out west and all over the Rocky Mountains. Until it is clearly slipping I would leave it alone.

Sorry, I didn't mean I was doubting that yours is going out. I was saying you may as well replace it with OEM because nothing is clearly better.

OEM unless you have a need for a heavier duty one (boosted, hardcore 4x4'ing, etc.)

A heavy duty clutch/pressure plate combo is going to increase your pedal weight, not something I'd recommend if you do a lot of city stop and go driving. I'd also replace the slave cylinder and throw out bearing at the same time. [never do a clutch replacement without a new QUALITY throw out bearing]

If you don't mind me asking, what did they quote you for labor?

My 2015 has 50k on it right now, but I tried to teach both my wife and sister in law how to drive it and hasn't felt the same since......At least it feels like it wants to roll back more before grabbing when I pull up the hill in front of my driveway.

Toyota near me (Pasadena) wanted $3200 to replace the clutch on my 04.

Its an all day job (possibly 2 depending on how busy they are) since the transmission has to be pulled out.

Yeah they also wanted $3600 to replace my catalytic converters lol. Got a muffler shoolp to do it with Magnaflos for $625.

Clutch jobs aren't cheap but dealers will charge an arm and a leg for it, a good independent shop will charge around $1k for parts and labor in my experience. It is a labor/time intensive job but dealer markups are insane.
