I had my dealer install my supercharger @ 5,000mi & noticed shortly afterwards when under boost the clutch is slipping to the point it defeats the purpose of having it.
I have been driving manuals for over 30 years,no towing & mostly highway driving.

Has anyone successfully had their clutch warranted & if so was it replaced with the same unit or an upgraded unit?

BTW, I have the 8y 100k Extended Warranty

Well, if you haven't added anything else but the SC and it warrantied fully through the dealer, yeah you might be able to get the clutch warrantied. But I would HIGHLY suggest you buy your own upgraded clutch and have them install it during the replcement if they will. The OEM clutch just can't handle Supercharger power. Mine went out in about 6k miles to the point where I couldn't even get in to boost in any gear without it slipping. I thought I just sucked at manual transmissions until I started seeing more and more people like yourself with years of driving manuals reporting the same problem. I'm currently running the URD Stage 3 and love it, but for a more stock feel I'd recommend the URD Stage 2 to most people with probably a resurfaced or new flywheel (I'm running the lightweight from URD, but it's not for everyone).

The dealer said they would check the boost and RPM records in the ECU and if I'd ever high revved it or showed to much boost (which I would since I have the 2.85 pulley) Toyota would turn down the warranty claim. So I replaced it on my own.

I've also heard from others that some dealers claim the clutch is a 'wear' item and isn't covered under warranties, so you have to pay for the part, but the labor is free, or something like that.

How many miles on your clutch? The stock clutch wasnt designed to handle the added power and torque of the supercharger, I've killed 2 TOBs in stock clutches with my supercharger already. URD sells Competition Stage 1-3 clutches and there's another company I forget the name of that's also recommended. I don't know if a new clutch will be under your warranty but if you continue to put a stock clutch in, the supercharger will continue to shorten its lifespan.

16k on the truck now, 100 miles highway driving per day. Does Toyota/TRD have a performance replacement? If so I would think that should be covered.

They do not. Like I said above, Toyota MIGHT replace it under warranty, but it's just going to fail on you again. I'm convinced they didn't over engineer that transmission in any way like they did with the Autos (which are run on the v8 tundras, a gen ago) and any power upgrades go past what it's designed to handle.

Clutch is a wear item it won't be covered. Same as a set of brakes.

Put an upgraded clutch in there.

HIGHLY recommend a clutch upgrade to anyone with the 6 speed and an SC. It's not if, its when your clutch starts slipping. Better to think about it now before it starts than deal with it when you can barely drive.

I heard an easy way to check is drop the clutch in 4th gear at a stop...if your truck doesn't stall, you need a new clutch. Mine failed that test at the trans shop just to show the guy how bad it was lol

I have the dreaded TOB chirp just like I did on my last clutch. This one barely lasted 5k miles before it started again, figure it must be the supercharger. Fortunately this clutch is warrantied through Toyota because they installed it (they warrantied it for 1 year) but I'm going to buy Competition Stage 2 clutch through URD for them to install so I don't have to keep worrying about this.

To answer your question OP, yes TRD does make clutches but I don't know how they compare to some of the other performance alternatives on the market.

This one is for first gens but they make them for the 2nd gens too...

For the price of the TRD clutch you can get a Competition Stage 2 clutch through URD and save some money, I think they run around 500.

Same problem here. My dealer has been a real jerk about it. I brought it in 4 times and they said they couldn't replicate it. Then they said it was a wear item and with only 12k on it they wouldn't be able to do anything. I can't tow or haul anything heavy with it. I'll be upgrading to a URD before long.

Here's a video of normal acceleration with slippage on the freeway:

    Some of the things...
Mine lasted 10k miles before it was slipping enough to annoy me. Now it's a urd stage 2 with their heavy flywheel and tob and the difference is unreal. Much much better than the oem in feel and holding power. Gadget will hook you up! @Gadget@URD

Clutches aren't exclusive to 4x4 or 4x2, any clutch made for your model truck will work. The Competition Stage 2 clutch sold through URD is a popular one for supercharged Tacomas

DO NOT get the Competition Clutch Stage 2 for the 1GR. Unless you want yo have problems soon there after.

URD brand, SPEC Clutch Brand, Centerforce,

But not the Competition clutch. I don't feel like going through the history so take my advice if you want.

Any of the three that I listed. I ran the SPEC clutches. Stage 3+. A chattery bastard until fully broken in, but rated for 550 brake torque, and I was putting out 575 wheel torque, without issue from it.

Their Stage 2+ is more user friendly for break-in.

VolcomTacoma can attest for the URD Stage 3. Centerforce has been an industry work horse. Exedy is also good, but they don't have a lot of choiced for the 1GR, as of a while ago.
