Clutch smell

    Is it normal to smell burning clutch (M/T) when 4wd is engage especially when you are on a ditch? Thanks!

    If you were slowly letting up on the clutch while reving it, yes. It does not take much to do that if you are slipping the clutch in 4hi and especially 4low because there's so much more resistance the clutch has to overcome against the plate to get the truck to move, especially on anything steep or in deep sand. Same problem with towing. It takes practice getting the clutch to enguage at lower engine rpms without stalling so you are not slipping it too much.

    Pretty easy to burn a clutch when wheeling. I bought a 86 4x4 for my son and installed a new clutch which he brunt to a crisp in less than 6 months! He got to install the second one.
