I don’t see much purpose for it other than gnarly situations where rolling backwards results in going over a cliff. I’ve never used it in a sticky situation, because I don’t trust it. I use the parking brake method I grew up with. It’s on my TODO list to experiment with the clutch start cancel

CSC will slowly creep you up or down in 4lo, very difficult to imitate using throttle and parking brake. It’s definitely there for emergency situations.

edit: I meant to say it will creep you up in 1st or reverse, depending which way you are facing.

But then you will have ABS light and your ABS will not be working, not the best solution.

In low range it’s really nothing for a starter.

I once pulled a 1/2 ton truck with a front tire in a rabbit hole in a flooded field using only clutch start cancel in my wife's '93 4Runner. Every other truck just spun in the soft mud. Mine didn't spin because the tires were rotating so slow. The torque multiplication of 4-Lo on the starter torque came on gentle enough to move us forward a foot and a half, enough to get his tire out of the hole and him happy as shit. Everybody standing around in the driving rain was like, "WTF MAN!!???? HOW'D YOU DO THAT!!!??? YOU DIDN'T EVEN SPIN! How'd that thang do that?"

Yep, it’s perfect for situations like that.

    Nicely done!

Yeah, it was many years ago, the Friday afternoon before opening day of deer season, waaaay back in the Davy Crocket National Forest. Several 4-wheel drives there, all tried and defeated. CLUTCH START CANCEL FOR THE WIN!!!

Explain this “start it without getting in”? Instead of getting in the truck like a normal person, you open the door, lean in, put the truck in neutral, apply the parking brake, push the clutch start cancel button, put the keys in the ignition and start the truck? How is that easier?

Or do you park the truck the night before in neutral, with the parking brake on and complete the rest in the morning?

Or does this involve remote start (which I don’t have)?

lol…well I’m about 6’1”, so I find leaning in the truck, putting it in neutral (I always set the parking brake), and using CSC to be less effort than getting in the truck. This is only my cold weather routine to thaw the windshield before I head to work or head home, whatever the case may be.

Oil change: Set the parking brake, put it in neutral. CSC engaged.

Change the oil, start it back up without getting back in and potentially getting unseen oil on the seat or gearshift.

I'm actually glad my 4x4 OR does not have it (or so I have read, never tested it, but will try rolling back next time I'm on a hill to confirm).

There is no hill assist on my 2020 OR 6mt that I have noticed. It will happily roll backwards off a cliff or I’m just good with my clutch work.

I had to test (new truck, so had not verified). No hill start assist on my OR, she rolls back as soon as my foot comes off the break if I intentionally don't let the clutch out to the bite point. Also, like my 1st gen, the 3rd gen roll starts without using cluch start cancel.

Thats what I use it for. Do it almost every day. Not in 4wd either. Is everyone else just joking around about the 4 low thing?

I use the clutch start cancel every time I start the truck. I am an old guy that started driving before they installed devices that required you to depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor in order to start the engine. So I put the trans in neutral, press the clutch cancel button, and turn the key.

The OR / Pro MTs do not have it.

The one you really didn't want is the goofier one in the OR / Pro ATs.

I don't need the HA function, but there is no way around it for now.
