My 2000 Tacoma has had starting problems for a few weeks now. I replaced the clutch start switch. no change. had battery, alt, and starter checked. all good still wont start. I took a small black ground wire loose that came off the ground of the batt. It started right up but then went back to how it was acting. whats going on ?

If you don't hear any clicking from the starter when you turn the key to its "start" position, there's a good chance your starter contacts have given up the ghost. Common problem. Easy fix, but time-consuming to remove and reinstall the starter. I would certainly check their condition before ordering a replacement starter.
