Hi - I am looking to get a 2016 manual transmission TRD OR.

I have read comments about the Clutch Start Cancel (CSC) being used to substitute for the Crawl Control which is not included with the manual.

Can someone please explain exactly how the CSC is used and/or post a link to a YouTube tutorial?

The only useful thing the CSC has done for me is to start the truck without getting in it. Otherwise I don't see its usefulness.

    Thks for the replies.
And thks wildfyr3 for the video link. That was the only video I could find too.
The commentary talks about an FJ being driven out of "difficult situations" but show it being started on a moderately inclined, well paved road.
I'm still wondering how CSC would be utilized in any of the situations that Toyota's promotional videos show the benefits of Crawl Control.

    Found this.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-use-for-clutch-start-cancel.399096/

Also, I saw a video on here somewhere a while back. It had a guy in his truck slowly approaching a small ledge in 4lo. Trying to climb it, the truck stalled sort of halfway up. Now instead of re-starting the truck with the pedal depressed then slipping the heck out of the clutch to climb the ledge, he engaged the CSC, using the starter to crawl up the ledge without rolling backwards at all.

I've read the CSC should only be used to move the truck in 4lo, that way the starter has the most mechanical advantage possible. I've also read that it's not really the mechanical wear and tear that's hard on the starter motor but more the electrical load on the battery. It puts hella strain on the battery so it's not to be used frequently. Maybe if you had dual batteries it would be less strain...

I've done this to get a subaru with a bad throw out bearing onto a flat bed trailer. Works well, yes heavy load on battery and also a lot of heat into the starter. But it gets the job done

Found another example of how to use CSC. He doesn't mention use of a clutch start cancel, but he does use the starter on a MT without pushing the clutch in. The defenders must not require the clutch to be pushed in to start?

EDIT: The time feature doesn't seem to be working on this embeded video. Go to 10:16.

I have a 2011 TRD 6 speed. I have never used that clutch start in a wheeling situation. If I am on an incline and need to start without rolling back ill pull out the E-brake. Once I feel the vehicle creep foreword (Gas and letting out the clutch), I will release the e-brake and continue up the incline.

If you're offroading and you stall on a steep incline/decline, the CSC is extremely helpful in starting the truck up again without having to use the clutch and risking rolling backward or forward. Especially if there's a drop-off right behind you.
