If serious question, stock tank for cattle watering. If not serious question, bomb crater.

it was a serious question, thought the "veins" surrounding it were interesting.

Definitely a watering tank. Or an oil well and anyone can come pump oil.

Morning! My buddy in his TJ and I are heading with the families in a couple weeks. We are planning on about 9 days and are hoping to find dispersed camping the whole time. We are planning on starting by Twin Lakes as that's the area I am most familiar with. I have a long list of trails to hit starting with Halfmoon and Mosquito Pass. Any suggestions (other than what is already in here) on camp sites, trails, or fishing spots?

Mosquito also might still be blocked with snow, no one has tried it since end of June

There's a lot of dispersed camping around that general area. Go to Halfmoon Creek like @CO MTN Steve mentioned and there is also good fishing in that creek. When I was living up there in 11-12 I never saw anyone else fishing it. Lots of crawlers headed up to Holy Cross though. Also fish the Colorado from Leadville to Salida for browns. That's some great water. It's prime hopper-dropper season there now. There's also a small high mountain lake up Hagerman pass that is an absolute bitch to access since you have to scamper down a cliff to get to it but it's full of cutthroat. Just be very respectful of that area.

If no one updates before then, I'll take a drive up and see how it looks.

Just stay the trail like the poster noted, That is one of the hot spots for people doingwhatever and note the tree line below Champion mines starts the Private property (the mine owner) even though trail continues.

My favorite spot is the San Juans in SW CO. There's lots of camping along Mineral Creek and other areas around Silverton as well. It's also an off-roading paradise from easy to Black Bear Pass lol
If it wasn't 1500 miles away I'd go there every year.

How hard realistically is Black Bear? I've been wanting to do it for years but it would likely only be me and the lady in my truck and I'm not sure if I'd want to run it solo.

Depends on Manual or Auto transmission, its a narrow shelf road with lots of switchback turns.

Decent experience offroad, and I always bring an extra four or five pairs after a certain trip to Mexico that I forgot any underwear except the ones I was wearing.

    I've got a jiggler.

Well, it makes the switchbacks much more fun. Several are 2/3 point "turns" and steep, so manual adds mucho excitement. I think most after completing it think it wasn't as bad as they had feared but many "jigglers" also said they would never run it again.

I believe there are plenty of youtube video's of guys running it, my favorites include wives screaming/ yelling or threatening the driver or just plain walking it. :D
