Drones are cool, some of my friends have them. I just think it would be weird/annoying if they were flying by all the time but we're already living in the twilight zone so why should camping be any different.

I'd rather have a herd of streetbikes in an otherwise quiet forest than a drone flying around. If there's a more obnoxious and irritating noise in the world, I don't know what it is.

Call it gatekeeping if you want, but camping with a drone is doing it wrong. So very wrong.

I went fishing at Urad lake the other day. There was like 20 cars in the parking area at 7 A.M. Colorado plates, Georgia plates, California plates, Minnesota plates, Arizona plates

Forest Service cracking down on dispersed camping rules due to illegal fires, human waste, and shooting

Disbursed camping and parking on the South Platte Ranger District will be different next year, be prepared for some changes: https://go.usa.gov/xGQWd - sorry @lambo your favorite close spot is changing. It's going to affect me as well as I climb there.

Designated sites have signs posted with site numbers indicating parking and camping areas. In May 2021, it is projected that designated dispersed sites within the South Platte Ranger District boundary in the North Rampart Range area, including Rampart Range Road (FSR 300), Jackson Creek Road (FSR 502), Longhollow (FSR 348) and Dakan Road (FSR 507), will be transitioned to management by Rocky Mountain Recreation Company and will be charged a nominal fee for overnight use that will allow for reinvestment in improving infrastructure and maintenance of popular trails and other recreational resources. The fee system for these sites is still under development.

    More SXS assholes:

Jones Pass, on the Clear Creek & Grand County borderline. Wildlife officers issued citations to people unlawfully driving into the #WilliamsForkFire closure area. We remind the public that fire closures are in place to protect the public.

this is unfortunate, but kinda understandable. making dispersed spots pay spots and reservable online kinda defeats the purpose of dispersed camping in my opinion. this is just one area within pikes isnt it? i wonder if they will ease restrictions when/if camping traffic dies down.

Yes, Rampart Range in South Platte ranger district - west of Castle Rock.
    It probably won't.

    the article says:

"Designated dispersed campsites within the South Platte Ranger District boundary in the North Rampart Range area, including Rampart Range Road (FSR 300), Jackson Creek Road (FSR 502), Longhollow (FSR 348) and Dakan Road (FSR 507), are set to a transition to a fee-based system."

    but earlier mentions:
"Come 2021, the Forest Service is warning visitors to the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands South Platte Ranger District to keep an eye out for designated dispersed camping sites with posted numbers indicating legal parking and camping areas"

idk. guess im just gonna have to keep driving farther and farther away from the cities

I saw a notice about the takeover by Rocky Mountain Recreation Company when I was entering north Dakan Rd a month ago.

i think SXS is side by side.

You won't have to pay to camp at Rampart until next May if I understand the article correctly. they could update things since that article came out last week.

    what/who are i-generation kids?

    Yes, Side-by-side.

Rampart Range has not changed yet. Early next year (probably close to the "mud season" re-opening), I'm guessing there will ONLY be designated primitive sites that contain metal fire rings you are allowed to camp in and then in May (probably leading up to Memorial Day), Rocky Mountain Recreation Company will be collecting fees and "managing" the area (aka picking up fees in the tube and refilling the envelopes).

ipod, iphone, imac generation. The kids born like in the between 2001 and 2008 where everything to them is free on the internet and the idea of actually having to pay for music and movies is just absurd.

and their lives are shattered when the wi fi goes down

It's not just the areas near the Front Range. Durango/Silverton/SWCO are changing fast, and with COVID this year has been insane. I have never been surrounded by so many clueless people in the road-accessible "backcountry", and by people in general in the actual backcountry. And yeah, starting about 6 years ago the amount of human crap and TP on the surface has been obvious, and hugely increased this year.

Drones anywhere near my campsite (provided I can find one, now) are asking to get used for skeet practice. :D

I'm considering moving the heck outta here. I live here for the ability to check out of humanity for a while, and when that ends, all the pretty views in the world aren't worth it.
