Any 3rd gen owners have experience with Coastal Off-road’s diy hi clearance rear bumper? I’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these kits. Welding it up is not a problem for me, was looking to see if I can get more pictures besides the site

I just came here to ask this! Also to see if anyone who has one could post some pics of the mounts preferably before installation...

Doubtful. Might be a couple but none that I have seen. The website has quite a few pictures.

I helped build one for a 1st Gen but that’s about it.

Same here, I really like my sensors on the rear (the tech is winning me over). I havent found a DIY bumper thats compatible with the rear sensors, although I'm sure if i dug my head out of my ass I could make it work

I recently built up the coastal offroad rear bumper. Cut out a section for the blindspot sensors. Has been working so far! Used lexan to cover the opening and then painted everything in raptor liner.20210424_171739.jpg 20210424_171722.jpg 20210710_133751.jpg

I really like the coastal bumper as well. Curious what others are doing for a license plate mount for it

There are 2 holes drilled into it for the license plate but it covers the hitch. I am currently just using one bolt with some fender washers but you could get a flip up license plate cover.

Are your BSM sensors working well with the new bumper? I think I might try something similar

I just have the blind spot sensors in the corners. I imagine for the other sensors on the newer vehicles you could do something similar with the Lexan covers. You need to make the openings a fair bit larger than the actual sensors. I don't know what the sensors look like for the clearance sonar but I would imagine they are all pretty similar in function. Personally I would take the bumper off and "hot glue" some steel plates beside the sensors to mimic a fully steel bumper and see what happens.

I tore the original bumper off and fixed it with some steel plates on the inside near the BSM sensors and that is how I knew the metal would not interfere with the sensors. On my first attempt with the openings on the Coastal off-road I did not make them large enough and was getting some interference/ false positives, so I made them a bit larger and have had no problems since. I think its just important that there is nothing metal where the sensors are "looking".

So far so good! When I originally cut them in I had some "false positives" when driving next to fences or metal poles but I cut the openings a bit larger and that has worked. I will still get the occasional light coming on for a fence or some other metal object but I have also put on 33s so it sits a bit higher and I don't think I angled the sensors perfectly (I eyeballed where I thought the sensors should be....). I honestly did not have much hope of it working since all these professional off-road companies have seemed to fail at it, but it has turned out well.

If I was to do it again I would spend a significant amount of time trying to replicate the factory angle/position and cut my opening much larger than the sensor. I would also find a better mounting solution as mine are kind of just wedged in the corners and held in place with a shit ton of epoxy......

Do you have any pictures in process? Does RCTA work?

I think you're the only person with a HC bumper with BSM. I'm very interested. As far as I know C4 and Apogee both gave up because they kept failing.

That is a good question about the RCTA. I haven't actually noticed it working. I don't know if that is simply because the situation hasn't occurred yet, or if it doesn't work anymore. That worries me if they both gave up... I am sure they put a lot more effort/thought into it than me. I literally cut some holes where I thought they should be and glued them in. I will update this post if they start to fail or stop working in the future. I have only had the bumper on for a month. When I purchased the truck I had some issues with the BSM failing randomly and took it to my local dealership. They hooked the computer up to it and did something but I do not know exactly what. Perhaps that has been the secret to them working for this long. 20210420_124819.jpg 20210420_124824.jpg
