Day two-lots of welding! Started by putting the bumper back on and checking fit. Fit was good, so I started tacking up the corners.

    Bumper day 2 I.jpg

The corners where a challenge. Lots of parts and some pretty significant fir issues with one plate on each side. I think this was a fit issue I created but I could not see a way out of it. I spent a lot of time working a puzzle piece that just wouldn't fit-don't know how it is supposed to go as every other part (like 8!) lined up and fit as a team. What I ended up doing is starting at the tip and working back toward the bumper. I ground the misfit pretty hard and got it close. Some gaps to weld but no real issue. I welded up the inside with a 6010 stick, then went after the outside with Mig. I weld stick better than wire, and it shows, but I am certain this won't come apart and there is a lot of material to grind without weakening the structure.

    bumper day 2 II.jpg

    bumper day 2 III.jpg

From there it was weld on the final parts for the hitch. I will tow with this so I gave it a lot of attention with the 6010. The end "cap" for the corners was way off to my lay up-next time I would check that (no mention in the instruction...) as I am tacking up the outside ends! All it mattered were that I had some sizable gaps to fill.

    Bumper day 2 V.jpg

Last bit of welding to finish the D rings and then on to the grinding process... which will be a sizable endeavor.

Is anyone looking to buy the high clearance bumper with side protection and with dual swing out? I have not even taken it out of the shipping wrap. I am selling my truck and will not need it anymore.

@Slashaar I am located in Indiana. Not sure what shipping would cost.

Just takes a steady hand and practice. You can find baseline settings on the inside of the wire feed panel on most welders. I had zero experience other than 6 months of college welding then no welding for 2 years before I picked up a welder again and welded my bumper.

Took the bumper to the powder coater yesterday. Forgot to get a picture of it ground. Looks nice. Had to do some "fill" with the welder in a couple of spots where I wasn't careful with alignment and did a lot of spot fill on pin holes. Hoping I got them all. Doing it in a silver that is a very close match to my truck-the Sport look if you will. If I hate it, rattle can black it will be!

The bumper is getting powder coated; however, I am getting the license plate holder in order and the license plate lights ready. I have an old wiring harness out of a long gone first Gen and I robbed a connector from and I extended the wires on the LED lights for final placement to be determined once I have the bumper back. Thinking of making a bar across the top of the plate holder that will extend out past the plate an inch or so on each side, slightly bent up so the lights will mount and nicely shine on the plate. I will do the final wire runs and connect them up when the bumper is mounted, but it will be cool because I can remove bumper if necessary, without cutting wires like factory.

The plate holder is a $15 Amazon find that flips up-think 60's Chev or such where the fuel filler was behind the plate. This will make using the bumper for towing much easier as the plate doesn't have to be removed every time it's used. I also cut a big hole for the factory trailer harness in the front plate of the bumper on the flat, so we'll see how it looks... hopefully soon!

Worked up the front plate bumper yesterday. I have A TON of grinding to do. I'll follow that up with some cleanup then price and rattle can. My welds got so much better as I made it through the day.

after a sh&t ton of sanding it is primed, painted and installed. I still need to wire the winch and fogs and cut to size/weld/add the tube over the grill but good for at least this week.

I have this bumper with the bed protection for sale. It is still all packaged up and ready to ship or pick up. I sold my truck and no longer need the bumper. I would like what I paid for it. $1700.

I keep forgetting to post these. I could have put it on this weekend, but... I may wait until spring-when I head out to Moab. I missed way more pin holes than I anticipated and with Wisconsin's method of snow removal-SALT-it will just rust. It is the beginning of winter, and every year it turns my stomach. Hate the salt. Color is very close to silver on the truck-looks good. A bit lumpy too, but I think that is the nature of a steel plate bumper. Like it a lot!

Got the bumper installed this morning. I like it. Color is close enough (for powder) and at is way higher...
