Do not judge my painting skills, removing the bumper, grinding some more, and re-painting this weekend. Weather is not behaving itself and I didn't want to drive around w bare metal, or no bumper for a week.

damn that is hella close lol but coastal does swear that they have a really high clearance and good approach angle bumpers so that's probably part of it.

Also the edges look pretty smoothed out and good, hell I think the paint looks fine although maybe the photo doesn't show what you are concerned about.

Just remember you are your own worst critic, don't overthink or overdo it too much lol It's an armored bumper designed to get bashed after all.

Been having a heck of a time Welding my bumper. I tacked it up using flux core MIG because I was outside in the driveway. I have taken the bumper off the truck and have it in the garage now and am trying to weld using gas MIG and I'm getting the worse beads whenever I weld on the bumper itself. On practice material I can run ok but I'm having a difficult time on the bumper itself.

Going to try like a thousand things over thanksgiving and will se what works best.

The biggest question I have about this bumper and problem really, is how to treat the inner cavity from rust? Once its together you can't get in there, and if you paint it before the face plate goes on you will burn the pain up by welding around it

You also realize at about hour 12 of welding and grinding why bumpers like this are 1500$

Did you take a wire wheel or a grinder to the edge of the plate? The scale on it from being cut will really fuck with the weld.

Most welders will require you to change the electrode lead location on a terminal board when changing from flux core to regular MIG.

EDIT: I guess the word I was looking for was Polarity. You'll need to swap your polarity when switching from Fluxcore to regular MIG. https://makemoneywelding.com/how-to-set-your-mig-welding-polarity-settings/

Also, make sure your gas flow is set properly. Not enough or too much will definitely give crappy welds.

On your welder, you might need to switch the polarity of the wires. You cant just switch from flux to gas.

but should be a simple fix

@jmanscotch @fatfurious2 Thank you, although I did run into that problem a while back I have since fixed that. Good looking out!

Along with my torch position I think this is also been an issue for me because I get in such a rush to actually burn a bead I don't properly prepare the material.

I'm running off an 220V extension cord I made that's about 25ft long and goers to my dryer plug. I am going to take this welder to work and plug it directly into the wall to see it the cord I made is screwing me at all.

Brandon at coastal will email them to you if you have to have them. First step is just remove bumper cover and aluminum bumper support. 6 14mm nuts. Other than that not much you can do. I removed my skid plates to make it easier as well.

Word to the wise, the 6 holes need to be elongated to get the bumper to sit high and flush so when you get the base plate do that before you start building it.

@Nexon1295 The biggest thing I learned was I need a A LOT more practice to make it look as easy as some other people do. I know shitty welders always blame the equipment but damn I still think something is up with my Hobart 210 MVP. With that being said I have a couple of guys at work willing to TIG the bumper for me. I'll post pictures once real progress is made.
