Consider if you end up with a green light before you stop and the trans has to shift , some make you stop before it re-engage , some hunt the gear buck a bit and go in.Its just not worth doing in an auto trans. As far as coasting being legal or not , that seems to be a point that distracts the issue. Legal , or illegal , there isnt any real point . Is it legal to chrome plate sun visors? who cares.

This isnt worth doing. File it next to swapping 200 bolts to titanium to save 20 lb at $2000 cost,or buying $500 in video gear to replace mirrors to stream line vehicle and hope to gain 1-2 mpg. There are more immediate ways to gain mpg.

If you need mpg try these first; fold the right side mirror , cut 4 plastic discs and fasten to the wheels , remove spare tire ,inflate tires to highest psi that doesnt cause uneven tread wear ,synthetics, slower acceleration, tonneau cover(light one), remove all the junk in the truck. These will get you better mpg today. Hell , maybe even 3 mpg.

Another mpg gain ,not so soon.... 225/75r16 highway tread tires (pick according to weight too) , u might gain 1-2 mpg depending on current type of tire.
