The motor I bought for 1.1k has 90k on it, my body has 223k. And my mechanic said that the person who owned it had already tried repairing it that way. I don't quite remember what he said but it was something like they bored the hole too big where the spark plug goes an the spark plug broke and shot into the engine.

Oh I misunderstood. A 90k mile engine replacement is certainly a lot better than 223k. A hole bored too big or not though, could still be fixed with the proper tools and procedure. I don't like thread inserts, and wouldn't use one for a head bolt as an example, but for a broad surface like the top of a cylinder head for fastener that isn't load-bearing, I think it'd be worth the shot!

How long did you drive it with the known problem? I've seen some odd stuff concerning debris in the combustion chamber. Broken valve heads, which are catastrophic when they contact the piston, but that's your worst problem. We had a brand new GM 350 crate engine donated to our shop at school because it ran with a weird noise, turned out a screw was bouncing around inside one of the cylinders. Most likely dropped in there on accident during assembly. I had a SOHC 3vz-fe that I was rebuilding with some scratches on top of the piston from something bouncing around in there, at the end of the day these things happen, and they are repairable. They are rare but they happen.

I drove it about 1,000 miles. And sometimes it would make a weird knocking noise like something was banging around in the engine, and then sometimes it wouldn't make a noise at all.

1,000 isn't so bad. A loud knock, similar to rod knock? It is possible since the sparkplug was damaged that the cylinder was misfiring, in which you may or may not notice a little more engine shake and irregular engine note.

Yeah it sounded kinda like a rod knock, but it was that noise, and then the weird noise of a mechanical part or something getting thrown around in the motor, but that noise wasn't constant.

Interesting. I'm not sure if perhaps the misfire could make a sound similar to rod knock? Otherwise you have another problem because rod knock is rod knock, especially if its a separate noise from the debris in the cylinder.

I don't think it was misfiring. There was no engine shake or anything. Just horrible noises lol
