getting close to ordering some 5100s with 887s. Is it worth $100 for the spring strut assembly, or can I go to vato zone and rent a compressor and do it myself? I have some lifting and lowering suspension experience.

To me it was, as I wouldn't trust one of their tools for any job. At least as long as it is a reputable place you know it's done right.

Well you need to decide what your time is worth...if the spring isn’t clocked in the correct position on the shock you’ll end up with the clunk noise spending months tightening and re-tightening suspension components while the whole time the problem was right there in front of you!

I have the same set up on my truck and went with renting the cheap spring compressor from O’reilly. They got the job done but IT’S SKETCHY AF!!

Given that you're on stock uppers, doing it right the first time is questionable at best.

Wrong...it’s a pavement queen that handles speed bumps at full throttle it’s setup for the way I use it not the way you think I should but carry on.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
You paid $2000 for "speed bump at full throttle"?

K, guy. You'll see what I mean in several thousand miles. I've been doing this a very long time with trucks, drag cars, circle track cars, etc. If you are modifying suspension, change the damn uppers, it's common knowledge in world of modifying vehicles. Just adding mid-level coilovers that are new to the market and essentially unproven doesn't really sound smart to me, but I'm also not a fan of Bilstein. Buy once, cry once.

I see so many people on here cheaping out on their build and they end up suffering for it down the road. I've been there and done it myself and learned the hard way.

Go to Vato Zone and check out what they are renting. If it's the sketchy type with two thin threaded rods, stay away and pay for preassembly. Or just compress the spring in-situ like @Trident904 posted.

I hear what your saying...I got a full size tundra that will sore thru the air like a trophy truck and you know what that cost...I just don’t need it for the Tacoma.
